"You are the sum total of everything you've ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot - it's all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive"

~Maya Angelou

<<First Name>>,

Some words of wisdom

As the quote by Maya Angelou so eloquently puts it, we are made up of the experiences in our lives. Whether you are riding high on a great weekend or you've had some challenges lately, be sure you are trying to see the positives around you and surrounding yourself with people who lift you up!  <<First Name>>, life is a journey and it can be a bumpy one at times but remember, your mentor is here for you, so don't be afraid to reach out if you need a boost or want to share your wins! At the end of the day you are the only one who can determine whether or not you did your best and pushed yourself to reach new heights.

Now back to our feature presentation! This weeks wonderful recipe, Quesadilla Pizza Dinner!

Campus Study Spots

The library has many study spots, some loud and some quiet. There is the 4th floor, which is known to be the quietest floor (sometimes). It even has a quiet room near the elevators. There's also rooms you can reserve on all floors and cubicles on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors (reserve those at crs.ucmerced.edu). If you work better with noise, the lantern or any other area in the library will do it (at times it can be difficult to find a seat).

If you are tired of the library and want a change, there are so many other places on-campus that you can study! Below are a few hidden study spots around campus you can try out. Don't be afraid to wander around campus, who knows you may discover your perfect study spot! If you find a good one, feel free to share with your mentor - we're all students looking for the best opportunities to succeed, so hook it up!
COB 3rd Floor
This floor is full of variety! There are cubicles wherever you walk for use by students. There are also couches and tables with nearby whiteboards. If you like sitting on floors and prefer your own space, walk to your left from the stairs and walk straight ahead until you reach the exit. This area typically has students sitting on the floor doing work, there is even one corner with a table designed for sitting on the floor.
SSM 2nd Floor
If you love natural light check out the 2nd floor study area. If you walk out of the elevator walk to your left passed the cubicles you will find this great study gem! If you prefer your own area there are benches aligning the conference room on this floor with nearby outlets to plug in your devices.
S&E 1 2nd/3rd floors
If you get out of the elevator in any floor and walk straight ahead you will see the atriums (open space equipped with tables and white boards). To your right you will see a bunch of doors leading to labs but if you continue walking this way you fill lobbies to your left! They are equipped with tables and beautiful views. This is usually where graduate students will have their lunch and occasionally office hours so if they are occupied just try the other floor it will be the same layout!
S&E 2 1st Floor Lobby
There are actually 2 lobbies on this floor. One right when you walk into the building and another larger one on your right as you walk in. These areas come equipped with walls that serve as whiteboards. If you like solidarity when studying, try out the benches around the building.
In between S&E 1 and S&E 2
If you enjoy the fresh air, check out these tables. The only noise you will here is the breeze and occasional chirps of a lovely bird.
