<<First Name>>, Happy Monday!

It's another wonderful day at UCM!

By now I'm sure you're elbows deep in class lectures and homework and studies and maybe even a midterm or two. That sure picked up fast, didn't it? And it's only the 4th week of school. If you're feeling overwhelmed, be sure to speak up, your mentor is prepared to help you get through this transition? Ask your mentor about ways of managing your work load to reduce stress. Let them know how you're doing. Check in with them. You'd be surprised what insight your mentor can give you. Above all, make sure you take care of yourself.

We continue to work diligently to make sure every Mentee has a mentor. If you have not done so, be sure to fill out the Mentor Preference form that was in your acceptance email when you joined the program. Mentors are on a first come, first serve basis so act fast! If you have filled out the form, you will be contacted by your mentor shortly to set up your first meeting.

Study Strategy of the Week

Hello Mentees! As your mentors we are here to support you through this entire year. So every now and then we will post a few study strategies, tips or reminders to keep up with your work. This week's strategy is to start early. By starting ahead of time you can be prepared for class and feel more confident in the material. A few ways you can start early is:
  • Read the syllabus
The syllabus contains a lot of information relevant to the course including when exams, assignments, and homework are due. It also contains contact information of your professor and TA's. Additionally, they also contain grading policies of each professor and required materials.
  • Read assigned chapters before lecture
By reading the chapter before class you can have a better insight into what the lecture will be about and can get questions answered. Many times, professors will be fast paced so reading ahead will ensure you stay on track.
Feel free to follow these strategies and come up with new strategies!
