<<First Name>>, an update

Our murder mystery party went off fantastically! The mentors wanted to inform all the participants that were at the event, "We were acting, we promise"! If for some reason a mentor was acting all funny or rude or pompous, it was a part of the act. Good acting though, right?

On another note, <<First Name>>, if you were or are still required to participate in a Success workshop in order to get a hold on your registration cleared, we'd like to inform you that the Success Workshop does in fact count as one of your three required approved events. Be sure to inform your mentor if you went to a workshop.

And speaking of approved events, how are those going? Have you been remembering to get your orange event form signed? Around this time of the semester is perfect to start finishing up those last approved events. Pretty soon, you'll notice the approved events list down below start to shrink. Your options will be more scarce and you may not find an event that you're totally interested in. As a friendly reminder, be sure to keep up with your program requirements. We do it because we care about you, <<First Name>> =]. Don't forget, when you turn in your completed Event Tracking Form, you will have the option of receiving one of three completion gifts (2GB USB flash drive, SMP T-shirt, or SMP Journal)!

How to Set Up Email on Mobile Devices

As you may have realized, checking email is super important at UC Merced since it keeps you informed on with whats going on in your classes, on-campus, and in the community. If you have ever wondered if there's a quicker and easier way, Information Technology (IT) has you covered!
IT provides a variety of services such as free assistance in setting up emails on all your mobile devices like your phone or tablet! They have help desk locations around campus with trained staff to help you. For their locations and hours you can visit their website. But if you prefer installing on your own, you can follow the tutorials (with pictures!) for Apple iOS & Android devices shown in the links below:

For all other devices you can check out more tutorials here and be one step closer in receiving your emails in the comfort of your mobile device!

Did you know?

On September 28,2014 Governor Jerry  Brown signed  into law bill SB 1159. This new bill is a breakthrough for many undocumented scholars whose future remained unclear after their college graduation. One of the requirements for obtaining a professional license was a social security number, Now they are able to use an ITIN number to do so. SB 1159 will allow hundreds of undocumented immigrants to apply for professional state license thus enabling them to work as doctors, accountants, and nurses among other professions.

Studying Abroad

"Bobcats Without Borders"
You've likely heard the cliché, college is all about finding yourself and exploring the world. That's why many UC Merced students have spent a semester or even an academic year studying abroad in different countries. There are 3 benefits that studying abroad offers: students studying abroad will still remain as UC students while they're in a different country, they also get to keep their financial aid and use it to cover expenses, and last but not least, students get to claim credits for some classes that they take while studying abroad.

Because UC Merced requires students to have at least 30 units before they can apply for studying abroad, you won't have a chance until your sophomore year. But be sure explore your options, ask questions, and begin making plans now! Take the time to look at different programs that the school offers.

Find A Program In Your Major

Students can find coursework for every major and minor abroad, if they are flexible, as well as courses to fulfill general education requirements. Be sure to meet with the academic advisor for your major as early as possible so that he/she can help you generate your academic plan to include study abroad. Click here for a list of programs that UC Merced offers.

Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships considers all costs required in order to participate in a study abroad program. These costs include: round-trip airfare, tuition fees, room and board, books, accident and health insurance, etc. Students can meet with an advisor to discuss their financial aid situation.

Application Deadlines

Qualified students may submit complete applications no earlier than the term prior to the deadline on a first-come, first-served basis. Make sure to check out the Study Abroad website to know important deadlines for the programs that you are interested in.
