International Day for Biological Diversity 22 May 2018
Every year 22 May is celebrated as the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. This year’s IDB theme is "Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity". The 25th anniversary of the Convention presents a unique opportunity to highlight the achievement of its objectives at national and global levels.
To celebrate the same LEC has come up with a series of programmes like

  • Bund Building
  • Butterfly Habitat Conservation
  • Nature Trail Development
for corporates wherein the employees can volunteer and take part in biodiversity conservation.

Past Events  
Earth Day Celebrations
As the theme for this years World Earth Day was ''END OF PLASTICS'' we conducted a series of workshops based on recycling plastic pet bottles and oil cans for developing bird nests, bird nest material box an planters.  We also conducted clean-up drive in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. In all we conducted 4 workshops and 2 clean-up drives. Following are the details of the same
1. Kitchen Gardening Workshop @ Chennai
This World Earth Day we conducted our first workshop on 19 April 2018 on Kitchen Gardening for 45 employees of CRISIL Foundation in Chennai. The workshop started with a presentation explaining various aspects related to gardening followed by a demonstration on compost making using kitchen waste. Participants learned and carried out hands-on activity on sapling plantation and preparing planters from recycled pet bottles. A small quiz was conducted at the end of the programme as a feed back.
2. Bird Nest Making Workshop @ Gurgaon, Pune and Mumbai
We conducted three Bird Nest Making Workshops in Gurgaon, Pune and Mumbai On 19 & 20 April 2018 for the employees of CRISIL Foundation. uring the workshop participants learned about different types of birds, their habitat and their style of making nests through the presentation. The presentation was followed by a demonstration on making the bird nest. All the employees prepared bird nest by recycling oil cans and pet bottles. This nests would be installed in their local residents.
3. River Cleanup @ Ahmedabad
This was our third programme for the day on 19 April 2017 for 25 employees of DCB Bank in Ahmedabad. This was a clean-up drive of the river site. The employees were provided with masks, gloves and garbage bags to collect the plastic wastes. They all collected 10 bags of garbage from in and around the river site.
4. Stream Cleanup @ Sanjay Gandhi National Park Borivali, Mumbai
We conducted a clean-up drive in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali on 21 April 2018 for 20 employees of DCB Bank. The drive started with Avenue Tree Trail along the pathways of the forests using e-forestrail mobile app. On reaching upon the clean-up site the employees were divided into groups and were given gloves and garbage bags for collecting the wastes. Participants collected 24 bags of garbage wastes that included plastics, bottles, rugs etc.
1. Field Guide to Indian Moths
The much awaited Field Guide to Indian Moths by Dr V Shubhalaxmi got launched on 1 May 2018. 
The book was released by Dr Asad Rahmani, former Director BNHS. The team was busy in the preparations of the book launch and then the dispatch of the books.
