Happy Spring!

What's Happening in March

Winter has flown by with temperatures ranging from 50 to 70 degrees and now spring has sprung!  The sailing center is in full swing after we handled maintenance on the fleet over the holidays and through January - one thing we can confirm is that boat maintenance is never-ending.

2017 is off to a great start as we were awarded 10 Years Hallmark Performance from US Sailing at the Community Sailing Awards for our continued commitment to community sailing. Our programming continues to expand with the addition of two keel boats and summer sailing programs are online and open for registration.

In February we hosted the SAISA North Points #4 Regatta in which we were blessed with beautiful weather and grateful to the Carolina Yacht Club and everyone who volunteered to help make the event a success. The current SAISA rankings show that Wando, James Island and Porter Gaud sailing teams will be headed to Districts which happens to fall the same weekend as Charleston Race Week.

As we EMBARK on our 18th year at Charleston Community Sailing, it is with heartfelt gratitude to you, our community of sailing enthusiasts, for sustaining OUR worthwhile work that has helped so many individuals gain access to the water.  Visit us online and stay connected on social media to see what is happening.  We thank you for your continued support of our mission!

Community Sailing Awards

Last month our Executive Director, Jessica Koenig attended the US Sailing National Sailing Program Symposium in Austin, TX.  "I was honored to accept an award for Charleston Community Sailing for 10 Years of Hallmark Performance, I also spoke about increasing participation of females in our sport and was inspired by the keynote speakers along with colleagues in the industry. Thank you to the Charleston sailing community for your support and for making the past 10 years the best!"

NEW - Keelboat Sailing

Our J24 is in the water!  We are excited to announce we've launched a partnership with Chucktown Squash to provide roughly 40 underserved youth with the opportunity to get on the water. The curriculum is designed to introduce the basic fundamentals of keelboat sailing combined with STEM education.  We've also added a variety of family and adult classes which start in April 2017 - REGISTER TODAY!

Summer Sailing

The best way to spend your summer or any time as far as we're concerned is on the water, learning valuable life lessons and building self confidence. Our programs are open to EVERYONE and we welcome children ages 5 – 18. Register now for our summer sailing program with classes starting June 5 and running through August 11.  We will continue to run our popular Guppy Program and Adventure Sailing which runs half and full days, plus a few new programs. Learn more about our class offerings for 2017.

WhatSUP!

Warmer temperatures have arrived, however we are waiting for the water temps to rise before we resume our Paddleboard classes.  Stay in the loop of the SUP schedule/classes and let us know what you would like to see by filling out this form.  Looking forward to paddling with you!

Learn the Ropes of Teaching!

Summer is right around the corner and we are accepting applications for Junior Instructors for our summer sailing program.  Do you want to join our team for Summer 2017 and learn the ropes of teaching sailing while getting out on the water?  Apply today!
