Summer Fun Continues!

What's a Happening Now...

School's in session and our summer sailing program has come to an end.  Over the past eight weeks we had over 320 kids participate in our programs and roughly 60 kids got on the water daily.  From parents faithfully transporting children to the Charleston Yacht Club to volunteers representing us at various community events – our summer would not have been half as fun if we didn’t get to share it with all members of our community.  We would also like to thank our fabulous staff for making important things happen each day down here on the waterfront.

Although summer is coming to an end, there are still a variety of ways to get on the water or get involved as we move into Fall.  Check out all the opportunities below and our new SUP program.  You are a part of our community, so contact us if you have an idea - we would LOVE to hear from you.

Thank you for your continued support of our mission!

Sailors Travel to World Games

In early June the SC Special Olympics team competed in the 10th Annual Lowcountry Regatta held out of JIYC. In late July, Coach Meta Frasch, athlete Kylie MacFarland and unified partner Ellinor Walters represented Team USA in the Special Olympics World Games held in Los Angeles.  Congrats to Kylie & Ellinor as they won the BRONZE medal and Coach Meta on all her hard work. NEW SUP Program Launched!

Very excited to announce we are launching a SUP {Stand Up Paddleboard} program later this month. We welcome Harriot Parker onboard who is certified through the World Paddle Association in Water Safety/SUP Education along with her Lazy Dog PaddleYoga Certification. Join her for a challenging workout outside the gym, yoga or a fun paddle. Big thanks to our volunteers for helping get these beauties out of the box, assembled and onto the dock. Sign up for SUP programs!

Summer Sailing Comes to End

HUGE thanks to our summer staff Adam Sloger, Will Scarborough, Grace Wilkinson, Marguax Bacro-Duverger, Morgan Buckley, Nick Heinen and Mason Walters (from L-R).  These guys did a fabulous job over the past 8 eights weeks instructing 320 kids from our guppies to advanced racers.  Check out photos from this summer!

Saturday Sails

Everyone is working for the weekend and if you get this newsletter you most likely want to go sailing!  Last year we started Saturday Sails as an opportunity for people of all ages to continue sailing throughout the Fall. These fun sails will start next week for anyone who has completed one of our programs. Feeling rusty?  Don't fret, our staff will be on site to help with instruction on land and on the water.  Register NOW!

9th Annual Oyster Roast

It is only August but soon we will be shucking oysters at our 9th Annual Oyster Roast.  As in years past this event will take place the Sunday before Thanksgiving ~ November 22, 2015 ~ and it is  our biggest fundraiser of the year.  Join the fun and support Charleston Community Sailing and our mission by becoming an event sponsor or by donating items for the silent auction.  Learn more!

In NEED of Engines & Boats:

Got a 16-22 ft. boat sitting in your yard that your not using? Please consider donating your boat or working engine which is easy, philanthropic and offers potential tax advantages. In return for the donation of your vessel, we will issue a receipt and you can relax knowing that we will use the boat or the proceeds of the sale - to make it possible for all to get on the water.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We need your HELP!  Volunteers can help with everything from boat maintenance, regattas (on or off the water), outreach programs, office/admin work, STEM Education, special events and special and more.  If any of this sounds interesting or is something you are passionate about—we hope you will consider volunteering with us.  You can sign up to volunteer online
