Sailing into Fall

What's Happening in September

School is officially back in session, the weather is cooling off and we are moving into our Fall programming.  This summer we provided 300+ children with the experience to get on the water through our summer sailing program with the Charleston Yacht Club.  Youth sailors competed in the first Community Cup in mid August and now high school sailing is in full swing.  Don't fret there are still so many opportunities to continue sailing as we cruise into Fall!
Did you know we also offer a variety of SUP {Stand Up Paddleboard} classes? The schedule is online and paddle sessions are great way to either start or end your day outside.  Women on the Water will continue through the Fall and we are excited to launch a girls version after school on Mondays - Girls on the Water.  There is also Basic Adult Sailing, a NEW Race Day and opportunities to sail on Saturday - read more below and we hope you will join us for a sail.

As we EMBARK on our 17th year at Charleston Community Sailing, it is with heartfelt gratitude to you, our community of sailing enthusiasts, for sustaining OUR worthwhile work that has helped so many individuals gain access to the water.  Visit us online and stay connected on social media to see what is happening.  We thank you for your continued support of our mission!

NEW High School Programs

The season is upon us and we are excited to announce a few new programs.  There will be an Open Race Day on Thursdays starting September 8th along with an all girls practice day on Monday which will start September 12th.  If you are interested in either of these opportunities - SIGN UP!

Time to Paddle

We will continue to paddle through the Fall as long as the weather allows. Registration is ongoing and we welcome you to drop in if you are unable to commit to an entire series. Try a FUN, FIT or YOGA class and find out what the hype is all about.  Looking for some one on one instruction or small group options, arrange a private lesson.  Register for classes today!

Support the Sail Challenge

The 3rd Annual Soiree on the Sea kicked off a campaign to raise funds for new sails. YOU can help us reach our fundraising goal of $15,000 for a complete set of new 420 sails.  Learn about the sail challenge and mark your calendars for our 10th Annual Oyster Roast Fundraiser on November 20th!

Saturday Sails

This summer we were able to get 300+ youth out on the water and there are still opportunities to sail.  Join us for a fun sail on select Saturdays throughout the Fall.  Our US Sailing Level 1 coaches will be onsite to help you get sailing.  We ask that you have previous sailing experience or that you have had a class with us in the past.  Sign up today!

Community Cup

This new youth sailing regatta kicked off with a Friday fun big boat race combined with competitive dinghy racing on Saturday. The fleet of 39 young sailors were eager to race on Saturday, but light conditions made it challenging. After 23 races, sailors and families headed to the awards banquet and enjoyed food donated by Hyman’s Seafood along with sweets from Republic Ice Cream. The committee selected the most competitive fleet to the Club 420 division and the recipients of the 2016 Community Cup were skipper Sydney Register and crew Sarah DeLoach.  The event was a success due to the generous support of the Charleston Yacht Club, its members and all of our volunteers.

In NEED of Safety Boats:

Got a 16-22 ft. boat sitting in your yard that your not using? Please consider donating your boat which is easy, philanthropic and offers potential tax advantages. In return for the donation of your vessel, we will issue a receipt and you can relax knowing that we will use the boat or the proceeds of the sale - to make it possible for all to experience the delights of being on the water.  We are specifically in need safety boat hulls or a rib.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We need your help! Volunteers can help with everything from boat maintenance, regattas (on or off the water), Summer Sailing, Buddy Sail, SC Special Olympics, Office/Admin work, STEM Education, fundraising, social media and special events.  If any of this sounds interesting or is something you are passionate about—we hope you will consider volunteering with us.  You can sign up to volunteer online
