Quilted Lizard Tales
Fall 2015

books, patterns and workshops
Having fun is hard work!! I’ve been busy creating and traveling in the last couple of months and have so many projects to share with you in this newsletter!!! Bookmarks, recycled market bags and postcards. Plus 2 new Youtube videos on how to use Angelina Fibers to add sparkle to Accidental Landscapes and quilting tips for creating the look of stones and bricks for Happy Villages.
Four little Indians, aka our grandchildren joined us for a week in September. We decided it would be fun to build a teepee from trees in the woods and wrap it with the fabric curtains I had left over from my booth displays at Quilt Market. And of course, we had to paint it – what fun and what a mess. I think they did a great job.

The wind and rain knocked it down last week, so I will be using the fabrics to make several little quilts to keep the memory of our project alive. Rowen (age 8 - left)) was the one who drew the great blue lizard!!

New VEST Workshop

Next year, 2016, I will begin offering a new workshop on my Wearable Waves Vest. This is a great introduction to my topstitch piecing technique. It doesn’t get any easier than this….start with a lightweight sweatshirt as your pattern, take it apart, add my Layered Waves, do some quilting and then sew it back together again.
Seascape and Shells Bookmark Set
In this tutorial, I will lead you step by step (with photos) on how to create this little set of Accidental Landscape bookmarks, topped off with little seashells or your choice of charms. Combine it with a favorite book and it's a perfect gift.
Recycled Market Bag
Re-use and re-purpose are the key words to this project. Start with an old (or new) canvas bag and give it a new life as a bag to take to the grocery store or farmer’s market. Selecting the fruit and vegetable fabrics for this project is lots of fun. I found all of these fabrics at a great store in Vermont. The good news is that they (Quilt-a-way Fabrics) have a great online store as well.
Two NEW YouTube videos!

Angelina Fibers on Accidental Landscapes

Have you heard of Angelina Fibers? There are several books written about these fun heat bondable fibers. In this Youtube I show you a few ideas on how to use them to add sparkle to Accidental Landscapes.

Architectural Quilting for Happy Villages
Happy Village collages can be quilted quite simply, however if you would like to add the look of bricks, stonework, shingles or make the domes look rounded, then this video is for you.

If you have a suggestion or an idea that you would like me to present in a video, please send me an email at I want to offer creative ideas that are helpful to YOU.
Do you like small quick little projects like postcards? My latest Holiday Pine 4"x 6" postcard is perfect for the season.

CutLoosePress patterns are one page patterns (both sides), formatted on a specially laminated 8.5” x 11” paper. Ask for these patterns at your local quilt store. They are available to storeowners only, wholesale through Checker Distributors. So ask your local quilt shop owner to order some for their store!
The other postcards in the series are:
Out of the Woods, City Lights and Island Time
Row by Row H2O
The pattern Accidental Landscapes x 2, which I designed for Loving Stitches’ 2015 Row by Row shop hop event, is now available for sale as a pattern ($7).

Sweat and Inspiration
I often get the question, what do you do when you are not quilting? You may be surprised to know (or not) that I love rocks.

Over the years I have been working diligently to expose dramatic rock ledges on our 9 acre wooded hill.  Some of them have become perennial rock gardens and others I am just now discovering. The shapes, the textures, and oh, the stories these rocks could tell. Look what I discovered under leaves, a thick layer of earth and some small trees….. Mother Nature’s artwork! I added the little cairn tower.

So now you know that when I am not on the road teaching or in my studio designing, writing or creating quilts, I am out in the woods either hiking, working on rock art or simply breathing in the inspiration from nature.

All the best to you until our creative paths cross in the future!
