Quilted Lizard Tales
FALL 2017
Happy Villages, Accidental Landscapes, Wearable Waves, and very soon...Wiggles & Waves.
Books, Patterns and Workshops
Welcome and thank you for signing up to receive my quarterly newsletter!
Check out these great colors and wavy lines I discovered recently at the at Mass MoCa Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains! Many of the Sol LeWitt Wall Drawings were wonderfully “quilt-like,” but this one with the curves spoke to me the loudest!
Wiggles & Waves (soon!)

My new book “Wiggles & Waves: Free-Form Curves” is ALMOST here!!!! It will be printed in the next couple of weeks and I hope to have delivery before the end of the year. It has 96 pages of full color and over 20 new projects and ideas ranging from Twists and Twirls to Layered Leaves and Logs to some gentle Wiggles and some wild Waves, Scalloped Waves and even Layered Cakes!
You can pre-order a copy on my website with the convenient “pre-order button” $25
To give you an idea of what is in the book, here are the photos and descriptions of the new workshops based on the book. The workshops are so new that they aren’t even on my website yet, just the titles.

Wiggles & Collage
6 hour Workshop

Wiggles are curvy stripes. They can evoke the feeling of wind, water, music or simply a rainbow of flowing colors. Select a large image print for the theme and nine colors to match. Topstitch the gentle curves together to create a piece that has a beautiful sense of movement. Continue the flow by extending some of the images into the wiggles and borders with raw edge collage. 12½” x 48” runner/wall hanging or 22” x 22” table topper
Large Logs
6 hour Workshop

Let’s start with the traditional Log Cabin block and feature a fun image in the center instead of the classic red square. Select a large print and some lights and darks to coordinate with it and you are on your way to building some very sassy blocks with topstitched curves and perky little triangles

Approx. size of table runner/wall hanging: 13½” x 48”

Five log blocks make a great table runner and four blocks are perfect for a table topper or bag. If you want to make a large quilt bring more fabric and continue making blocks.

No-Bake Cake
6 hour Workshop

Be prepared for every occasion with this fun layer cake table runner that you can whip up in an afternoon. Topstitched curves and easy piecing create the cake layers. You choose the frosting, the occasion, number of candles and have fun decorating with machine quilting, beads, yarn, lace, crystals, etc… Simply delicious!

12½” x 48” runner/wall hanging/banner

Color Twists & Leaves
6 hour Workshop

Ease in to gentle free-form topstitched curves in this technique and design workshop.  We will make 6 abstract flowers that twist round and round and 6 pairs of Layered Leaves embellished with yarn. Then experiment with different combinations to see which design layouts appeal best to you for making your choice of a wall hanging, table runner, table topper, a bag or the beginnings of a quilt top.
3rd Place Winner

Good news! A Village for all Seasons (2017) 45” x 61” received a 3rd place ribbon in the Whimsical Art category at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Nov. 2-5, 2017.

It will be part of a traveling exhibition in 2018.
Leftover Skinny Fabric Strips
Do you ever wonder what to do with those strips of fabric that are too skinny to save? Well, I have come up with a fun option. I have created a “Tree Loom” inspired by the Earth Loom created by Susan Barrett Merrill the author of “Zati-The Art of Weaving.”

8 members of our hiking group spent time weaving gifts from nature found on the trail and strips of fabric, yarn, ribbons, feathers... Here is the Earth Loom all decked out with our contributions. So much fun and so relaxing! It was the perfect day with good food, great friends, fabric and fiber!
Since I do not own an Earth Loom, I decided to make my own outdoor version strung between two trees. I call it a Tree Loom

The weaving is a work in progress, not meant to be finished anytime soon. I’m weaving twigs, flowers, leaves, acorns, etc….anything that I find in my yard or perhaps from a special hike. Interspersed with the organic items are strips of fabric and anything else that strikes my fancy. I look forward to seeing it coated with snow and perhaps decorated with some evergreens in the Winter.

It will evolve with the seasons.
