Vergennes was busy this summer! We welcomed so many new faces to the city and to our restaurants, stores and, yes, the Opera House. Special days like Memorial Day, French Heritage Day and Vergennes Day allowed us all to show off a little bit of the little city to neighbors, friends and new visitors.

Now comes autumn and winter and this is where YOUR Vergennes Opera House gets really, really busy! No sense helping the winter months seem longer than they already are...that's what we're thinking.

Look below for some ideas of what to do in the coming months. Plan now for a visit to YOUR Vergennes Opera House and bring a neighbor, friend or a new visitor.

Check out what's going on below or go to the Calendar of Events on the Vergennes Opera House website.

THE MARQUEE IS RESTORED! Thanks to John Baker of Wildflower Ironworks, the marquee is restored with new lighting and a working clock. (We are still making adjustments on the base lighting.) Plus, just this week the city began restoration work on the sidewalk and curbing in front of City Hall. Thanks to Green Mountain Power, OurMont Fund, Nina and Jason Bacon, 7th grade student Addie Brooks and the City of Vergennes for supporting this restoration. The FVOH is continuing to raise funds for the final $6,600 needed of the $22,000 restoration. To donate please go to this link. Learn more by visiting our photo album here.

THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS DONE! A bow was finally put on this multi-year project with the award of the final $17,000 toward the $123,000 expense of the City Hall/Opera House sprinkler system. The grant was a tax credit project administered through the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development. A working sprinkler system brings our official occupancy rating to 300, allowing us to host a full range of events, weddings and productions.

VERMONT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION WALTER CERF GRANT: The Opera House recently received a $5,000 Walter Cerf Grant to be used toward our interior restoration work. The original ask was for $25,000 but the grant committee decided to parce the grant to other groups to help everyone along at least a little bit. We are grateful for this award and look forward to prioritizing some of the necessary surface work inside the Opera House.
