No Winter Blues Allowed!
We are officially half way through winter which means....YES...spring is halfway here! See, I'll bet you are smiling already!
A little something about CARNEVALE VERGENNES: "The Circus of Life" or in Italian, "Il Circo della Vita".
We are keeping busy in YOUR Vergennes Opera House this winter and we're definitely looking forward to what's ahead! Primary among the "happenings" is Carnevale Vergennes on March 4th. The details are all coming together nicely (get details and online tix here) with the help of the board members from the three beneficiary organizations: Vergennes Opera House, Vergennes Partnership, and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes. You'll definitely want to put this event on your calendar! This is the fourth annual Carnevale Vergennes and this year we've partnered with the city of Venice, Italy as a Sister City.
Here's a video clip of the official "proclamation" by Vergennes' City Mayor Bill Benton.
Venice, Italy is where Carnevale originated and continues to take place over a two-week period each year. Here in Vergennes, being a little city and all, we condense our Carnevale into one epic evening. Want a little taste? Check out this video from last year's Carnevale Vergennes, shot by America's Best Friend.
THE LAST NOTE: Farewell Concert for the Bluegrass Gospel Project.
And a bittersweet, but no less exciting, final concert of the renowned and much-loved Bluegrass Gospel Project is taking place on March 11th. Tickets for this one are going fast so don't wait too much longer to scoop yours up. More details here.
AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
That's right, the Vergennes Opera House and City Hall turns 120-years-young on February 12, 2017. The Opera House/City Hall has gone through a few facelifts over the years, but she's never looked better. Here's to another 120 years!
2017-2018 20th Anniversary Season!
Plans for our 2017-2018 season (October 2017-March 2018) are well underway with some special events to mark the 20th season since the historic theater reopened in 1997. We are looking forward to sharing the details with you over the next few months but we can tell you this: the season opener is on Saturday, October 7th with Downtown Bob Stannard and Those Dangerous Bluesmen.
A couple of days later, we have Red Green returning on Tuesday, October 10th. He had some fun last time he was here in 2014. Check out the 2014 video below featuring Red Green with Vergennes Mayor Bill Benton and local Representative Diane Lanpher.
You see, there is so MUCH to look forward to and plenty to take the winter blues away. Start making some plans today!
Keep smiling, stay warm, be kind to each other, and get ready for plenty of fun, straight ahead!
President, Friends of the Vergennes Opera House.
