Hi <<First Name>>, and welcome to the Monthly Member News.

So, the 2015 Lottery is all over and done with (you can read more about this below), and I'm keen to get back to a bit of reality.  The NZHRA Executive Committee have a lot of things they would like to achieve this year, most of which require several hours of background work.  There are the upcoming changes to the Health and Safety Act, which Ron Ward (Zone 6 Director) has been working on; we need to get some momentum on the Rulebook Rewrite; and it's time to set the budget for the new financial year.  All fun stuff.

One thing I'm very excited about is this year's Street Rod Nationals, hosted by Bay Rodders Inc. and being held in Mount Maunganui over Labour Weekend.  Arrangements are well advanced, and include several accommodation options, designed to be easy on the wallet.  Bay Rodders are putting the focus fully on the entrants, and hope to show off their home town as well.  The Street Rod Nationals is an important event on the hot rod calendar, and I hope many of you can make it along.  The Executive Committee have moved the AGM to coincide with the event, so we will all be there to support it.

Of course, we are also coming up to re-affiliation time, so make sure you get along to your Club meetings, so that you can secure your NZHRA Membership for another year.  We are working on some new member benefits, which you should hear about throughout the year.

Yours in Rodding

The Mount Shop & NZHRA 2015
Hot Rod Lottery

We have a winner, and with the handover having taken place on 24th April, the Lottery is now officially all over.

The awesome people at BG Marketing have very kindly put a wonderful little movie together for us!  Seeing the lottery car, lovingly driven off into the sunset, seems like the perfect way to end the lottery, which has taken up the time and effort of so many people over the last few months.  Whether you helped with the restoration, sold tickets on our behalf, or wrote in with stories about the car, we are very grateful.

Congratulations to Vishal from Auckland!  We hope to see you and the car again soon.

The NZHRA are pleased to be attending the Teng Tools Grand National Rod & Custom Show, as part of this year's CRC Speedshow, taking place over the weekend of 18th & 19th July at the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane, Auckland.  As usual, the organisers expect a huge number of the general public to come along to the CRC Speedshow, and would like to show them something of New Zealand's hot rodding culture as well. Remember that this display is in a covered, secured hall and last year saw over 34,000 visitors so it’s one you won’t want to miss.  If you think you'd like to be involved, you should complete the attached form and send it back.  Or maybe you need more info?  Check out their website here. There isn’t too long to go now, so don't leave it for too much longer... We’d love to see as many hot rods there as possible!

Does your Club have a good news story?

We all know that hot rodders put a lot back into their communities.  Whether it's organising a toy run at Christmas, donating the income from your event, or taking your cars down to the old peoples' home to make their day, it's all good.

We also know that you wouldn't normally blow your own trumpets, so please allow us to do so on your behalf.  Please email Alicia and dob in your Club for the good work it does in your community.
2015 Street Rod Nationals

Bay Rodders are going all out to make this a fantastic Street Rod Nationals.  Plans include a sound off, cars v planes, nitro cars, street khana, show and shine, car collection and top hot rod shop viewing, live bands and plenty of food.  There is still plenty of time to register, but don't leave it until the last minute.  Why not get started now, and click here for the registration form.

Lolly Tins

Here's some news a lot of you have been waiting for.  We have heard from the lolly tin guy, and he has selected three of our Members' photos to go on next year's tins.  They'll definitely be on shelves in time for Christmas, and possibly as early as Father's Day, so keep your eyes peeled when you're at The Warehouse.

You can click here to download a PDF of what they'll look like.

So, congratulations to go John Gillman of Greymouth Rodders Inc., Martin Bennett of Stragglers Rod & Custom Club, and Paul Coward of Southside Streeters Inc.  Well done!

Congratulations to Colin Hilditch of East Bay Rods in Auckland, for winning Picture of the Month.  Colin has owned this beautiful '38 Ford Coupe for 8 years now, but says he has always enjoyed hot rods, the people and their stories.  By now Colin will be enjoying his copy of Steve Holmes' book, The Kiwi Hot Rodders Guide to Life 2, sent with our compliments.

Send in a picture of your vehicle and you could be in to win!  The photo doesn't have to be taken by a professional - as long as it shows off your car's best features.

Every month we will choose a winner, who will receive a copy of The Kiwi Hot Rodders Guide to Life 2 by Steve Holmes.  With your permission, we will also put your photo forward to possibly be turned into a lolly tin, like those you may have seen at The Warehouse.
Please include your Name and Member Number when you send in a picture, so we know who you are, and send the photo to

IMPORTANT - Please ensure you are allowed to send us the photo, and that it is of your car.  If it was taken by a photographer, please let them know that you are sending it in.

This month's winner of this massive bucket of Mothers Car Care products, was Gwen Mark of Feilding Rod & Classic Club Inc.  Gwen says she never wins anything, so we're happy to change her luck.  Congratulations Gwen, and happy car cleaning!

You could be next, and you don't have to do a thing - just be Affiliated and wait for the call.

Thanks to the guys at Hot Rod Revue, who have kindly given us some DVD's to give away.  This month we picked at random: Mandy Pearce of Te Awamutu Rod & Custom Club and Warren Steffert of Waikato Classic Rod & Custom Club, who should both now have their copies.  Just one more reason to ensure you're affiliated to NZHRA.
Have a great month.  We'll catch you again in early June...
