What's next for New Year for Women?

It’s been a while since the New Year for Women Summit and since you last heard from us but we’ve been busy coming up with a plan for what’s next.

At the Summit we brought together 100 key leaders and thinkers from the community sector, business, government, unions and academia to crystallise the beginnings of a movement that will seek economic empowerment for women here in NSW, in Australia and beyond.

Here’s what happened:
New Year For Women Summit
We built on the NCOSS plan for action – A New Plan, A New Movement, A New Year for Women – which was the culmination of extensive consultation that NCOSS conducted across the state in a series of roundtables.

We nailed down 7 Guiding Principles and 4 Starting Actions to start creating a movement for real change that is brave, collaborative, inclusive and active.

Now we need to build our movement. Will you share the video with your friends, family and colleagues?

Send it via email, post it to your social media whatever way you love to communicate, we'd love you to do it and encourage people to visit the New Year for Women page and sign up to the campaign.

The more people that hear about this work the stronger our movement for change becomes.

At the Summit NCOSS also welcomed a commitment from the NSW Premier Mike Baird to this important work and a commitment from his government to providing a $100 000 in funding to start the implementation of the New Year for Women project and to see its objectives furthered.

NCOSS will ensure this new funding will be directed to key initiatives needed to advance the movement.

Read our full Summit Report.

In summary the report outlines how the issues and ideas raised in the lead up to the Summit through roundtables and stakeholder meetings and at the Summit itself in relation to financial literacy, employment, housing and superannuation will inform all our work moving forward.

It also clearly outlines where the announced funding will be allocated.

We are already hearing from attendees at the Summit how they are joining forces with contacts they made at the event to further the agenda of New Year for Women: projects to boost young women’s financial literacy and ideas for improving super for all women.

We’d love to hear about any work you are doing in this space, or if you would like to get more directly involved in the New Year for Women work though the working groups. Contact mary@ncoss.org.au

We will keep you updated on convening the panels and working groups and what starts coming out of them very soon!

Thank you again for helping us set a strong agenda for change for women. We’re on our way!
