A Message from the Chair
Employee Ownership in Canada - now that is something I can get excited about! I have spent about 25 years of my working life in two different ESOP companies. About 5 years ago I learned of an organization called the ESOP Association Canada and after attending the Annual Conference in Winnipeg I joined the conference planning committee and today we are planning our 4th conference since Winnipeg. During the past 3 or 4 years I became a Board Member for the Association and at our annual general meeting this past June I was nominated to Chair the Association and here we are.
On behalf of the Association I would like to pass along many thanks to the outgoing Chair Camille Jensen who is an amazing person leaving some big shoes to fill. Camille, we wish you all the best in all future endeavours and we know you will continue to support the Association in many ways over the years to come.
So, what is in store for the Association in the coming year and beyond? We will continue hosting an annual world class conference focusing on Canadian Employee Share Ownership. Attendees from new and veteran ESOP companies come together with service providers and people interested in the concept to share, learn, grow, and network with employee ownership as the common theme. The ESOP success stories we have heard over the past 4 years alone are so inspiring, and the experts who attend and often present are so amazing and so giving at this event. The 2019 conference will be held in Toronto from June 3 to 5.
We are currently scoping out a large project where we would move toward a paid membership system for the Association which would include access to webinars, blogs, service providers, and other experts as well as potentially creating an online ESOP community and possibly even some regional events. In the coming years as our membership grows, and our conference grows in attendance, it would be wonderful to have the resources within the Association to focus efforts towards lobbying the governments of this great country to offer tax incentives for ESOP companies.
We have some amazing individuals on the Board of Directors and as Advisors to the Board as well as on our conference and membership committees, but we are always looking for more volunteers to help us take the Association to the next level.
I would like to wish all of you an amazing Holiday Season and all the best in 2019.
