Robert Frost Students Present Information About Gender Stereotypes to Board
At the board meeting on June 12, 2017, students in the TDP program at Robert Frost, along with TDP teacher Janet Chang, presented to the board. The focus of their presentation was on societal gender stereotyping in various areas, from sports and career choices to color preferences and emotional capacity. The students put together a video showing the “accepted” vs. “challenged” roles of both boys and girls and spoke about why it is important for both genders to challenge stereotypical roles.
NFL and Midwest Dairy Council Donations Accepted By the Board
At the June 12, 2017, board meeting, the board approved acceptance of a donation from the National Football League (NFL) and Midwest Dairy Council Partnership of twelve NFL flag football kits, which is the equivalent of $3,000. The donation will be utilized district-wide to supply a kit of athletic curriculum materials that align with the district’s applied outcomes. Each kit donated will supply a school with: 10 footballs, 50 flag belts, elementary and middle school curriculum (designed by SHAPE America), a poster, and recognition certificates for students.
Enough kits were donated so that all CCSD59 elementary and junior high schools will now have access to the equipment.
Board Approves Display of Tentative Budget
At the June 12, 2017, board meeting, the board of education authorized administration to put the 2017-18 Tentative Budget on display. Starting July 1, the Tentative Budget will be available for community review at the administrative building during normal business hours. The board also authorized administration to publish the notice for the 2017-18 budget public hearing, which will be held on August 14, 2017, at 7:00 pm during the regular meeting. Any recommended changes to the Tentative Budget will be discussed at the board meeting on that date.
