During the board meeting on April 10, 2017, kindergarten and fifth grade students and teacher Laura Bald presented the Salt Creek buddy program. All kindergarten and fifth grade teachers attended the meeting to show their support for the students’ presentation and the program.
Fifth grader Maya D. introduced the program and presentation in her own words: "Fifth graders are really passionate about reading. We want kindergarteners to love books as much as we do. We are going to talk about how we got kindergarteners as hooked on books as we are. Fifth grade classes also did a couple things that show our fondness for reading."
Under the program, fifth graders partner with kindergarten buddies to share their love of reading. Fifth graders created book talks and read alouds for favorite picture books, which kindergarteners can use to help them choose books. Kindergarten students can also enjoy read alouds of popular children's books by using their tablets.
