At the board meeting on February 27, 2017, Heather Timmons, LRC Director at Holmes, and Rob Bowers, Principal at Holmes, presented the “ELC Storytime with Holmes Junior High” program to the board. Under the program, each week the ELC students go to Holmes for storytime, led by the Holmes students, who choose an appropriate book to read to the preschoolers. Storytime is concluded with a short play or song.
This is just another example of the ongoing collaboration of learning between Holmes and the ELC, whose students continue to learn from each other on a regular basis.
As explained during the February 27, 2017, board meeting, the projected enrollment for the Early Learning Center (ELC) from now to the end of the school year indicates there is a need for two additional classrooms.
Each month, enrollment numbers at the ELC are closely monitored for growth to ensure there are available openings for new students. As of February, 2017, the ELC was home to almost 350 students, the largest enrollment to date. Programming is mandated by state and federal laws and ensures seats are available for children who are identified with disabilities.
New Administration Building Update
During Monday’s board meeting, the board reviewed bid results for the new administration building project and discussed proposed alternates to accept and include in the design.
The expenses for this construction will be paid for out of fund balances and will be reflected in the FY17 and FY18 budgets.
The board will take action on this resolution at the next board of education meeting on March 6, 2017.
