Approval of Bids for Devonshire Elementary and Friendship Junior High
During the April 25, 2017, board meeting, the board of education approved the bid for the Devonshire Elementary addition and renovation project. ARCON and Associates was awarded the bid to create an addition which will become the new front office in the front of the school. This will create a safer environment for staff to receive visitors similar to all other CCSD59 schools. The current main office will be renovated to provide additional classroom space.
The board also approved the bid for ARCON and Associates to perform renovations at Friendship Junior High School. Currently, Friendship has classroom configurations which require students to pass through one classroom to gain access to another, and also lacks insulation to prevent sound permeation between spaces. The renovations will add hallways to create individual classroom entrances and rebuild insulated classroom walls to prevent distractions to students.
Work is scheduled to begin at the end of this school year at both schools, with substantial completion scheduled prior to the start of the 2017-2018 school year.
