Student Instructional Materials Fees Eliminated for 2016-17
As a result of board action taken at the CCSD59 Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, District 59 will eliminate the K-8 student instructional materials fees for the 2016/17 school year. The instructional fees were projected to provide approximately $235,000 to the district when collected from all schools.
With the elimination of the instructional materials fees, the district will revisit expenditures and include the necessary changes in the development of the 2017 budget to ensure the district continues the strong tradition of developing a fiscally conservative, balanced budget.
Board Continues Administration Building Property Discussion
In December 2015, the Board of Education was presented with three administration building property options that address:
Lack of space for staff professional development
Lack of adequate parking
Functionality of current workspaces
Needs of an aging infrastructure such as addressing energy efficiency needs, heating and cooling systems, and fire prevention
On Monday night, board members continued to discuss the needs of the district, how a new or remodeled building might potentially address these concerns, and what property might be best suited for these updates. The board is tentatively scheduled to take action on the three options at the board meeting on February 8, 2016.
