The Board of Education was updated on the contract for food services to students. The current provider, Sodexo, proposed a revised contract to continue providing food services to the district until the end of the school year. The cost to CCSD59 for meals starting May 1st will be $1.95 per breakfast and $3.00 per lunch, but there will be no increase in cost to the students. This contract will be presented to the Board of Education for approval at the meeting on March 14, 2016.
Board Votes to Move Forward with New Administration Building in Elk Grove
The Board of Education voted to move forward with the planning for construction of a new administration and professional development building on district-owned property in Elk Grove Village at 999 Leicester Road to address the following needs:
Lack of space for staff professional development
Lack of adequate parking
Functionality of current workspaces
Needs of an aging infrastructure such as addressing energy efficiency needs, heating and cooling systems, and fire prevention
The Board of Education will continue to discuss the sale of both district-owned properties on Arlington Heights Road - the current administration center and the adjacent property which was the former location of the Wellington.
Board Approves Hiring of New Assistant Superintendent for Student Services
After a comprehensive search for the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the 2016 - 2017 school year, the administration brought a recommended candidate to the Board of Education Monday evening. From a pool of over forty candidates, three rounds of interviews involving a representative group of staff/DEA members, building administrators, district administrators, board of education members, and a parent, Karen Aylward-Starr emerged as the preferred candidate and was approved for this leadership position by the Board of Education.
Ms. Aylward-Starr has been an educator for over 12 years, serving the last six years as a Director of Special Services in Huntley District 158. Prior to moving into the director’s position, Ms. Aylward-Starr served as the Assistant Director of Special Services and as a Learning Behavior Specialist, all in Huntley District 158. Additionally, Ms. Aylward-Starr has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree and a Director of Special Education Endorsement, all from Northern Illinois University.
