Students Present PBL Project Winners to Board

At Monday’s board meeting, students who won Dr. Fessler’s PBL (Project Based Learning) challenge presented their projects to the board. PBL is a teaching method where students work for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.

Superintendent Dr. Art Fessler issued the challenge to students in the Talent Development Program (TDP) at all elementary schools throughout the district. He asked students to answer the question: “How can I tell an interesting story that helps people understand why CCSD59 is one of the best in the nation?”

The four projects Dr. Fessler selected as the winners from 35 entries were presented to the board and also posted on the CCSD59 website. These projects were:

Olivia Britto - Third Grader at Brentwood - Girls Empowerment Group Helps Girls
Olivia Henkelman - Third Grader at Byrd - PBL Theater
Bilal Ibrahim - Third Grader at Frost - Super Readers
Ana Vega - Fourth Grader at John Jay - Mr. Rich
