At Monday’s board meeting, students who won Dr. Fessler’s PBL (Project Based Learning) challenge presented their projects to the board. PBL is a teaching method where students work for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.
Superintendent Dr. Art Fessler issued the challenge to students in the Talent Development Program (TDP) at all elementary schools throughout the district. He asked students to answer the question: “How can I tell an interesting story that helps people understand why CCSD59 is one of the best in the nation?”
The four projects Dr. Fessler selected as the winners from 35 entries were presented to the board and also posted on the CCSD59 website. These projects were:
At the June 13 meeting, the board of education approved the resolution to put the tentative 2016 - 17 budget on display beginning on July 1 until August 8, 2016 at the district administration building and on the CCSD59 website.
The tentative 2016-17 budget reflects the following changes from last year:
Expansion of the summer program - This program will be in session for five weeks and hosted at three elementary schools and one junior high school
The cost of a new administrative center and district commissary kitchen
Capital improvement projects including roofing, flooring, lighting, and security projects, among others
Sale of real estate property and buildings located at 2121 and 2123 S. Arlington Hts. Rd., Arlington Heights, IL
Year one of a two year implementation plan for classroom learning spaces at the junior high schools
During the budget public hearing portion of the board meeting on August 8, the community will have an opportunity to address the board of education regarding this tentative budget. It is expected that the 2016-17 final budget will be adopted by the board on August 22, 2016.
