Robert Frost Students Present to Board

Fourth grade students Paige Roden, Kush Patel, and Allen Paul from Robert Frost Elementary School presented their service learning plan at the board of education meeting. While currently researching and learning about the impact of poverty, the students have planned a field trip to Feed My Starving Children, where they will pack meals for people in need. The students’ plan outlines how they will learn more about impoverished countries in need of food, research how prepared meals stay safe for consumption, and track the food they pack to the exact location that receives the donations.

Audit Update

The board was presented with highlights of CCSD59’s audit for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

Some of the highlights presented were:

  • An estimated 2016 ISBE Financial Profile Designation of 4.00, Recognition, which is the highest category issued by the State
  • Creation of the Capital Projects Fund to account for expenditures related to the construction of the Early Learning Center
  • Reflects the issuance of bonds in the amount of $20,615,691 to pay for the construction of the Early Learning Center
  • Reports a fund balance increase of $8.9 million since fiscal year 2014

Visitor Management System

As part of our ongoing commitment to the safety of our students, CCSD59 is implementing a new visitor management system at our school buildings. The system will require visitors who wish to visit the building beyond the front office to show an official form of identification, whereupon the new management system will run a check with a national sex offender database to ensure all visitors are cleared to continue on into the building.

The new system will only be utilized for visitors who wish to enter the building beyond the office and will be implemented starting on October 19.
