On Friday, October 31, the Illinois School Report Cards will be released by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), and the report cards for CCSD59 schools will be available to access on our website at ccsd59.org. The School Report Cards for Illinois were updated in 2013 to more thoroughly portray a school’s performance; including academic performance, climate and learning conditions, and descriptions of programs offered.
The first unit of study designed by CCSD59 teachers utilizing a standards-based approach was introduced to teachers this month. The units of study were created using a design process called Understanding by Design (UbD) and feature:
Real life applications
Integration of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in an authentic context
Opportunities for choice, inquiry, critical thinking, and argumentation
Deliberate and intentional focus on the skills and knowledge required for success in the unit
Authentic and complex assessment tasks
To learn more about the Understanding by Design (UbD) approach and why it is important for today’s students, we invite you to view a short video interview with UbD co-author, Dr. Grant Wiggins. To read more about the launch of our new curriculum units, click here.
