The 10th World Urban Forum was the place to be this month, and RUAF was there with partners FAO and Hivos presenting a variety of initiatives that you can read about below. This newsletter also features a special story on the city of Quito, an important update on partner Laurier, as well as programmes and events that should be on your radar.

From the Urban Food Agenda to our work on City Region Food Systems and Climate Change, RUAF, FAO, and partners held several sessions at our exhibition stand, where we had a regular stream of visitors. Another highlight of the event was our training on “Integrating Food Systems into Urban Planning”.

The city of Quito has long been involved in agricultural activities. However, the city planning department only incorporated food as a matter of concern in 2002, in the wake of an economic crisis that left nearly 50% of the population living below the poverty line. RUAF is part of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) managed project, CAPVAL: Creating and Capturing Value. This project supports enterprises for urban liquid and solid wastes recycling for food, energy and clean environment.
