Dear Garden of Grace at Redeemer,
If you look at “Common Prayer” for today, you’ll see a quote from Francis de Sales that talks about the church as a garden of flowers—each unique in its own way, yet contributing to the overall beauty of the landscape. At Redeemer, we’d also add that a garden of flowers means nectar and pollen for BEES. It reminded me of Redeemer’s “Garden of Second Chances,” a beautification of the west end of the parking lot completed composed of transplanted flowers.
I’ve done a pitiful job of chronicling my time at Redeemer, but I kept my datebook from each year of ministry, beginning in 2011. As you see from the picture, it was 10 years ago tomorrow that the congregation voted to call me as co-pastor and executive director of the Zeidler Center. I remember that day so well. The phone rang with the cryptic invitation “you can come to the church now.” I entered the parking lot door and smelled the food before I heard the news of the vote. Then to sit and share the great meal prepared by Ericka, Jaquel, Trudi and other—what a delight! I had no idea what lay in store, and my heavens what a story we’ve all shared since that day!
The next day, February 28, Nancy painted my office and I “helped.” Tuesday, March 1, 2011 was my first full day in the call. Thank you, Redeemer, for an incredible journey. Let’s see where the Holy Spirit takes us in the years to come.
Peace in Christ, Pastor Lisa
PS: SAVE THE DATE—We’re setting aside Sunday, June 13th for the much-postponed “Requiem for a Homeless Man.” Most likely it will be a hybrid event—online and perhaps in-person as well. We plan to raise $40,000 for the buildout of our Mental Health Assessment Clinic that day.
