April, Yes! But Where's Spring?!

Mother Nature seems to be a bit conflicted about whether to step into Spring or keep one foot dragging along in Winter! In spite of the crazy weather, it's been an exciting few weeks around here! In this newsletter I'll share some of my exhibits and workshops going on right here in Indiana, and offer news of tours and other events that are planned for other parts of the country and, well, the world! You'll also find a discount code for Topaz products, and an iPhone Tutorial I wrote on how to create that dreamy soft-focus look in your images. Enjoy!

2nd Annual Shadow Stories Exhibit of all Black and White Images
It's exciting to congratulate those selected in this year's 2nd Annual Shadow Stories Exhibit, and especially to share that one of my images was selected for the printed, matted, and framed portion of the exhibit. This is my second year being accepted and I'm "chuffed" as my British friends say, to be in this year's exhibit showing from April 15 to May 16 at the Sixteen Miles Arts Photography Gallery in Milton, Ontario! One hundred images were selected, 30 of which will be framed while 70 will be displayed digitally during the exhibit. All the selections can be seen here.

Article in VISUELL Magazine

The German photo magazine, VISUELL, has published an interview with me in their most recent issue. The article is written by Klaus Plaumann, a stock photo consultant and long-time professional in the picture industry. Aside from being thrilled myself to be interviewed, I believe the interest in such an interview in a magazine like VISUELL marks a new level of recognition and acceptance for iPhone Photography. Danke, Klaus Plaumann and the folks at VISUELL for contacting me and showcasing my work as well as iPhoneography in general!

The Palouse Workshop, June 6 - 11

If you're a photographer and you've not yet been to our country's gorgeous wheat producing regions of eastern Washington and western Idaho, photographing this undulating landscape should definitely be on your bucket list! Partner, Sally Meyer Wolf, and I, will be taking a group June 6 - 11 when the fields will be lush with green winter wheat and garbanzo beans, rich brown fallow fields, and brilliant yellow canola! The shot above was taken from the highest point around, Step-Toe Butte, using a long lens and Fuji mirrorless camera. But the Palouse loves the iPhone, too! Read all about it and claim your spot here!

Cuba in October 2016 and January 2017

The image above is of ballet dancer, Patricia, from the Cuban International Ballet. I arranged for our group to have the opportunity to photograph her and another dancer in a home built in Havana in 1929. © Rad A. Drew

I recently returned from my third trip to Cuba since 2013. It is just as exciting to photograph as ever, and it is a city on the edge of change. As these changes take effect, we're looking for the best ways to see the country and its people in places that are off the beaten path. One way is to stay in Casas instead of the major hotels. Our experience staying in the homes of Cuban families was extraordinary and we will do this on future trips! Whether you shoot with a traditional camera or an iPhone, and are interested in joining Sally Wolf and me on one of these upcoming trips, shoot me an email (here) and I'll let you know when we have the exact dates and prices.

Topaz Webinar and Discounts
You all know what a fan I am of Topaz products. On Tuesday, March 29, I hosted my first live webinar with the folks at TopazLabs and shared how I use Topaz Texture Effects and Topaz Impressions to create images with a vintage tone, mood, and a sense of timelessness. If you missed that live webinar, you can watch a recorded version of it here.

And use my code -- RAD15 -- to get a 15% discount on all Topaz Products!

I LOVE these tools and use them on just about everything I process on the computer. This image of Fonthill Castle's Yellow Room (below) was created with Topaz Impressions.

Autumn Smokey Mountains Workshop with Friend and Extraordinary Photographer, John Barclay!

Many of you know the wonderful photographer, John Barclay, or at least are familiar with his images. You may also know that John and I have been friends since about 2010. I'm pleased to share that John and I are planning a workshop in the Smokey Mountains from October 24 - 29. Our workshop will take advantage of the beautiful fall color and we'll each bring our teaching specialities to this experience. The cost is $1,295.

John brings his deep knowledge and understanding of traditional camera photography, and broad skill in post-processing with Lightroom and Photoshop, along with his artistic philosophy of DREAM – BELIEVE – CREATE. John will inspire you to master the tools of your craft in order to realize your unique, creative, artistic vision.

Rad brings his experience shooting with the iPhone since 2010 and will share with iPhone photographers how to shoot, edit, and stylize images to create extraordinary works of art. In addition, Rad will review the process of transferring images from the "Big Boy/Big Girl camera" to the iPhone or iPad to take advantage of the processing tools available for these devices.

If these dates look good for you and you are interested in joining us for this workshop in the colorful Smokey Mountains, shoot me an email (here) and I'll add you to our list and notify you as soon as everything is set!
