Our new shepherds

News you might have missed in 200 words

We welcomed two new diocesan priests in separate Masses in May. If you live in Fort Smith or Springdale you should be able to meet them very soon.

Father Martin Amaro will soon be the associate pastor at Immaculate Conception Church and chaplain at Trinity Junior High School in Fort Smith. His motto is “The Lord will provide,” taken from Genesis 22:14. He had the unique experience of being ordained at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, surrounded by fellow priests and family.

Father Jon Miskin's two sisters and three brothers have moved to different states and cities, but they reunited for his ordination Mass May 26 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew and made sure they got a "squishy" hug after the Mass (See the photo on our Instagram or Facebook). Father Miskin credits his parents, pastor Msgr. Francis Malone and many others for forming him into the priest he is today.

"Charity is not a sterile service or a simple donation to hand over to put our conscience at ease. Charity is God our Father's embrace of every person, particularly of the least and those who suffer."

— Pope Francis, May 27

Just one minute

In Acts 13 St. Paul gives a succinct and persuasive sales pitch (aka "elevator pitch") to become a disciple of Jesus. Most folks who are passionate about anything have an "elevator pitch" to introduce a person to their passion. It may be a hobby, March Madness, the NFL, your spouse or children, but for St. Paul it was about Jesus.

Reflection: Do you have an elevator pitch for your faith; your relationship with Jesus? Take some time today or this weekend and together with the Lord develop one.

— Deacon Danny Hartnedy

Millennial priests

Are those Generation Y priests any different than the older generations? We explored this topic with three younger clergy to see how they are relating differently to their flock. Check out the story here.
