Unveiling of New Logo

With our new name comes the supreme honour of unveiling our new logo. It is WSMS' pleasure to announce the winner of the logo competition:

President's Welcome

Welcome back, meddies! My name is Lana, and I’m a Zeta. I’m proud to be your WSMS President in 2016. Our 2016 Executive team (VP Internal Anu, VP External Vaish, Social Director Will, Academic Director Christine, Treasurer Bea and Secretary Megan) and I cannot wait to bring you a new year of social nights you won’t remember and academic programs and initiatives to support your medical studies in 2016.

One of the best things to come out of 2015 was what can only be described as a collective realisation by our student body that we have a say in how our medical curriculum is delivered. I was so proud to see Year Representatives running focus groups and surveys to collect unbiased feedback to advocate for their grades and bring about lasting changes in the Western Sydney University medical curriculum.

Moreover, I truly believe we changed the way that the staff view us and interact with us as a medical society. I believe that 2016 can bring even more positive changes, and I encourage you all to continue to speak up when you believe things are unfair, and focus your discontent through the correct channels (your Year Reps who sit on the Curriculum Management Committees AND represent you at MedSoc meetings) so that when things go wrong we know about them and can do something about them.

At this point, I’d like to encourage you to check out the WSMS Exec and Council Chart so that you can understand how MedSoc works and who you should contact for different things.

If the concern is in regards to your mental health and wellbeing, I would like to direct you to firstly your GP, but also if you wish, our Vice President Internal Anu Ganapathy (Year 3), myself, or any trusted WSMS Council Member at anytime and we will do our best to direct you to the correct support services. You might wonder why I’m taking such a serious tone in a welcome message; it’s because this point can never be emphasised enough: no medical student should suffer from mental ill health in silence. Look after yourself; look after each other; and best of luck for the year ahead.
