We've got a new look!

The E-Letter is now In DEManD: News from the Delaware-Maryland Synod! Don't worry, we'll still be bringing you all the content you've come to expect from our weekly newsletter - we're just streamlining a few things to make it even easier to access.

Announcements that are submitted by congregations, organizations, and other ministries will appear for two weeks. To make sure everyone has the most current information about your event or offering, we strongly prefer that you share it on your website, Facebook page, or other online location so we can include that link and others can view it as frequently as they'd like.

In this section, you'll find reflections from Bishop Gohl and, on occasion, other ministry leaders from around our synod. A bit further down, you'll discover Your Neck of the Woods (events happening in our local congregations), The Generosity Corner, Classifieds, and our prayer list. If you have something you'd like to see in the newsletter, you can submit it online (there's a handy button for that just below this section!). If you have any questions, please contact Deacon Julie Stecker, Communications Coordinator.

Here's what's happening in our synod!

Online ELCA Vital Congregations Training

Ready to take steps toward renewal and vitality? Eager to try new things, share ideas, gain clarity on mission, and find new allies from others across our church? Then join the 2022 Fall Session of the ELCA Vital Congregations Training. Core principles to be explored are: living as disciples of Jesus; focusing on Jesus and justice; being expectant of the Holy Spirit; multiplying leaders who are young, diverse and bring fresh insights; and aligning with purpose and core values. The training is a four-session series. There are two different times per day from 1:30-3 p.m. (Eastern) or from 7:30-9 p.m. (Eastern) on October 6, October 20, November 3, and November 17. You may choose the best time each day that works for you. All sessions will be recorded and available to all registered participants. Let Me Tell You What It’s Really Likea frank conversation on living with mental illness, will be presented on Sunday, October 9 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (7607 Sandy Spring Road, Laurel, MD 20707). Adopting a non-traditional approach, in this one-act play the audience is addressed directly by two actors, one representing a person with bipolar disorder (Inside) and the other (Outside) playing all of the other characters (family, friends, professionals and others). Based on a series of interviews, the intention of the work (40-minute running time followed by a 20-minute Q&A with the actors) is to honestly present a broad range of experience for those who are living with an emotional and mental disability, deliver a message of hope, and strengthen the support of a compassionate community.

The Generosity Corner

A Special Thank You From Bp. Gohl

Over $85,000 Raised To Support The Ministry Of Our Synod!

Dear Friends in Ministry,

We concluded an offering recognizing the ministry of Bishop Gohl on July 31st.

I am happy to report that we met and exceeded our stretch goal of raising $70,000 in support of the ministries of our synod and in total received over $85,000 in gifts and pledges towards our Annual Synod Ministry Fund. These gifts will allow us to live out Christ's Great Commission in new and creative ways. Ministries that would not be possible without this additional financial support.

Thank you once more to all who participated in making this a success and I invite you to watch this special message from Bishop Gohl!!

The Reverend David C. Shank, CFRE
Assistant to the Bishops for Generosity
