Sport Management Students Work on Internships This Summer

At the 2016 Air Capital Classic, Sport Management students collected data for multiple research projects in an effort to measure economic impact and sponsorship effectiveness. This partnership began in 2012 and has been a great opportunity providing unique experiential learning for students while engaging in a local sport organization to disseminate the knowledge of sport management. The Department of Sport Management will be conducting similar cooperative  research projects with Sporting Kansas City, Wichita Thunder, Wichita Sports Forum and the Valley Point Golf Course this fall. For more information, contact Dr. Wonyoung Kim at wonyoung.kim@wichita.edu.
Students in Dr. Wonyoung Kim’s Sport Tournament & Event Management course in the Department of Sport Management recently volunteered at the 82nd National Baseball Congress World Series at the Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita, KS. Students gained experiences in ticketing, tournament operation, guest relations and media relations. In addition, Sport Management practicum and internship students also operated the event to make the 82 NBC World Series as the most successful event in recent years.
The Department of Sport Management was well represented this year at the Clash of the Colleges. Events ranged from inflatables, relay races, water balloons, team sports and competition between academic colleges. Competition was fierce again this year as the College of Education battled it out for first place against last year's winner, the College of Engineering.
ANOTHER MEDAL FOR NICK TAYLOR
Congratulations to Nick Taylor and doubles partner David Wagner on winning the silver medal at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janiero! So far the team has won gold medals at the Paralympic games in 2004, 2008 and 2012. This is in addition to more than a dozen Grand Slam titles.
