from Tiwa Savages's "Koroba"
I'm a whole month behind on this newsletter, so instead of inundating you with 2 months' worth of new chunes, NEXXTING 04 is all about the best of August. This issue features 19 tracks, in stark contrast to the last issue, which packed a whopping 42 July picks. (I did it, Matt—almost!)

If issue 02 was perfect for a Friday (paaaty vibes), issue 04 has Sunday energy—perfect to chill or work to. Even the uptempo tracks are on the melodic/soulful side.

My favorite track in this issue is Mono T and Dr. Moruti's "Esiswe Madoda". No surprise here—y'all know how I feel about AmaPiano! The frisson this one gives me is something serious. Let me know which track you're feeling the most!

Some exciting news: thanks to the Tiny Tree micro-grant NEXXTING won back in August, I've been able to expand playlist locations to include Apple Music and YouTube!

1  🇬🇧 🇩🇿 Toddla T and Miraa May's ode to carnival (which COVID-19 robbed us all of this year 😭) "Carnival Love".

🇯🇲 Shenseea's sexually liberated "Sure Sure" (MV). (Playlists include clean version of this, in case you want to blast it with your mom or kids nearby. 😊)

🇳🇬 — AG Baby (Adekunle Gold) and Patoranking's Afro-Dancehall bop "Pretty Girl"

🇳🇬 Tiwa Savage's "Koroba" (where she lowkey calls out predatory men and patriarchal society as she takes on the perspective of runs girls).

🇳🇬 DJ Tunez, Wizkid, Adekunle Gold, and Omah Lay slow things down with "PAMI".

🇯🇲 Protoje and Popcaan's retrace their humble beginnings and show gratitude in "Like Royalty" (MV).

🇬🇧 🇯🇲 🇬🇷 — Powerhouses Nao and Lianne La Havas get together for the anthem "Woman" (MV)

 🇺🇸 🇹🇿 John Hamilton, Gregory Stutzer / The.Wav,'s smooth Afro-House track "Surrender"

🇳🇱 🇳🇬 — More Afro-HouseYung Felix and Niniola's "Pareke" should get you moving if you weren't already.

10  🇿🇦 — My lastest AmaPiano obsession: Mono T and Dr. Moruti's "Esiswe Madoda". (This track might be a major reason this issue is late—I can't listen to it just once.)

11  🇬🇧 🇳🇬 — Band Rudimental, songstress Anne-Marie, and rapper Tion Wayne bring all kinds of flavors to their UK Garage-y track "Come Over" (MV)

12  🇯🇲 Shenseea's ethereal vocals on the chorus of "Lighter" eat Tarrus Riley up on his own song. Jheez!

13  🇯🇲 Jada Kingdom's real af and uplifting "WiN".

14  🇺🇸 — The other side of the coin to the previous track: Emily King's equally-real and emotive "See Me".

15  🇬🇧 🇯🇲 — Serving more acoustic guitar and masterful vocals, Tiana Major9's "Same Space?".

16  🇳🇬 Fireboy DML's breathy "Tattoo" (MV) is probably my 2nd favorite track in this issue. Is it sexy or wah? 💦

17  🇬🇧 — Another entry from the Bluenote Re:imagined project! Music collective Steam Down and vocalist Afronaut Zu come through with their Jazz banger "Etcetera" (which made the latest FIFA soundtrack 🔥).

18  🇺🇸 🇬🇧 — I lied 🌚, IDK, JID, and Kenny Mason's "Cereal" is my 2nd fave track. This beat is INSANE!

19 — 🇬🇧 — Closing us out (or bringing the energy back up before track #1, if you have this playlist on repeat): 45 Roller / Shy FX's Drum & Bass track "Rain". And yup, it samples Ann Peebles's "I Can't Stand the Rain" (the same sample used for Missy Elliott's "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)").

If you've made it this far, I want to hear from you! Hit reply and let me know what your favorite track/music video of this issue is. Also, never hesitate to recommend a song/album/artist — I love being put on!
