Weekly Devotional

I recently heard a preacher’s confession. She told how she wanted to have a two-day silent spiritual retreat every other month or so. This was 48 months ago and she only made it to one retreat. She described going to the center and being greeted by a short, aging nun. She explained to the sister what her intentions were for the retreat. The sister, instead of assigning her books to read or spiritual exercises, told her to walk about the campus and to think of nothing more than God’s love for her—not to think of her work as a pastor, or a preacher, but only of God’s love for her, just as she is. She said she was perplexed but did as instructed, and in doing so burst into tears. God was telling her of God’s love for her, not because she is a pastor, or an influential preacher, or a good counselor, but because she is a child of God! God loves us despite ourselves. Thanks be to God!
