The Centenary is the Topic

Issue 2

In 2018, Latvia celebrates a hundred years since it became an independent state. With festivities at home and all around the world, Latvia100 presents the best in culture, lifestyle and innovation. To help to spread the word, a colourful visual concept for Latvia’s centenary abroad has been created, based on the Venn diagram – two circles that overlap. You need at least two to celebrate: the host and the guest, and this interaction creates a positive experience.

You are welcome to visit the Latvia100 section in our homepage for more information on the official Centenary programme, projects and events. Also, we invite foreign journalists to participate in the Centenary Media Programme. In 2017, from May till November, the Latvian Institute will organize group trips for journalists to Latvia’s regions, to discover the true spirit of this country through stories of local people, cultural events and historic locations, to take a glimpse into the lifestyle choices of the young and creative professionals, and to feel the vibe of the business start-up communities and social initiatives.

This year's Fair is especially significant for Latvia since on the final day of the fair, 16th March, Poland is handing the title of Market Focus over to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in a ceremony attended by ambassadors of all three Baltic States. To honour this occasion, several topical events are held already this year in London, therefore Latvia has created the #iamintrovert campaign as a special introductory theme in preparation for the London Book Fair 2018.
