This is an opportunity to see a new-to-Spokane concept. Located in the old Burgan's Furniture building on Division, the Ruby Suites are furnished boutique apartments. The 46 one-bedroom units are geared toward corporate stays and have a minimum stay of 30 days. The property uniquely combines the comforts of home with the convenience of hotel services.

Tour Gonzaga's Hemmingson Center with AIA Spokane. Located on the east side of the campus this building is a 168,000 sf replacement for the former 34,000 sf COG. Thank you Mike Wallace, AIA, of Bernardo|Wills for coordinating this tour.

Third and Final Update from the Spokane Regional Health District

Schools play a vital and visible role in their communities. The physical design of a school and its grounds can affect activity patterns, behaviors, and food choices. Schools can be designed to promote student health through the following food/beverage, physical activity and safety enhancing environmental design considerations.   Healthy Eating Design Guidelines for School Architecture, Physical Activity Design Guidelines for School Architecture and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design. (Two of the aforementioned studies include contributions from AIA Architects.) Mayor Condon and Spokane Arts announced the Call for Entries for the 2015 Mayor's Urban Design Awards. The awards are a biennial celebration of architecture, urban and landscape design that shape our city and region. They recognize projects that contribute to Spokane’s quality of life through good urban design and highlight the importance of creative thought, technical proficiency and the relationship of good urban design to our city’s economic health and overall well-being. The call for entries is open through August 14 at Midnight. Visit to submit, view 2013 awardees and to learn more about the qualities that contribute to good urban design.

The AIA|CSI Golf Tournament will be Thursday, September 17 at The Creek at Qualchan Golf Course. The event is a shotgun start beginning at 1pm. The cost is $70 per person including golf, power cart, and dinner. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit AIA Spokane, the Inland Northwest Architectural Foundation and the CSI Spokane Chapter Education Fund. A few Sponsorship opportunities are still available. In Our Region, State and Elsewhere

An outcome of AIA National’s Repositioning initiative requires all AIA state components to submit a Memorandum of Understanding by year end 2015 specifying how all their components will work together to best serve all AIA members within that state.  States that cannot develop such an MOU will not receive an allocation of Member Service Revenues monies from AIA National starting in 2016. Learn what AIA|WA Council and AIA Spokane are doing to better serve AIA members.

Herman Miller Healthcare will sponsor intern architects to attend HealthcareDesign15, the fall conference of the Center for Health Design/AIA Academy of Architecture for Health. The conference will be held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. Washington, DC on Nov 14-17. Each selected intern architect will receive reimbursement to assist with attendance and travel to the conference. Scholarship candidates should electronically submit their materials to the AIA at by Aug 14. More information

Every year, AIA reviews one section of its Public Policies and Position Statements directory. This year, the AIA is considering revisions to the first section of the directory, entitled The Architect. As an AIA leader, your input is a vital part of the review process. Please take this survey to offer feedback on the proposed changes. The deadline to participate is September 15, 2015.

The Building Research Information Knowledgebase (BRIK) includes a new member-only subscription feature that increases access to practice-relevant research. Three EBSCO academic research databases (Art and Architecture Complete, the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals and the Sustainability Reference Center) are connected to BRIK and accessible to AIA and NIBS members. A free trial is underway until September after which a nominal fee will be charged. Learn more
