AIA Spokane encourages excellence in all types and areas of architecture. The 2016 Design Awards program honors works of distinction by its members and brings public attention to outstanding architectural services rendered by its members.

Categories are: Built over $5 million and Built under $5 million. Awards may also be presented for Craftsmanship and Sustainability. Our Jurors are: Ken Andrews, AIA and Brad Tomacek, AIA both from Denver and Sid Scott, AIA from Portland.

Join us at 5pm at the Spokane Club in the Georgian Room to mingle and enjoy the projects submitted by our members.  Enjoy a wonderful meal and the evening's Design Awards program.

Play With Your Food

Take a look at what kids can do when do when you help them unleash their creative side! There are some great photos on the AIA Spokane Facebook page that show what was done on April 2 at River Park Square with crackers, marshmallows, cups of glue and the encouragement from architects to Play With Your Food!

Navigating State and Federally Funded Projects

Review with Brian Belsby the requirements and pitfalls the architect must navigate to successfully manage and utilize federal and state funding sources for the planning, design and construction of community facilities and infrastructure. This presentation will include coverage of the key elements of the evaluation and protection of cultural resources, the State Environmental Policy requirements for the protection of natural resources and the National Environmental Policy Act. ZeroLandfill Spokane is a two-day event where designers and architects donate their expired specification samples to the local creative community. Materials will be collected on Friday Apr 22 at WSL Warehouse on 3200 E Trent, Build 3, Suite F and distributed FREE OF CHARGE to the community the following day at the same location. Help out by donating fabric, carpet, wood, tile, stone, laminate, and more. Share this information with teachers, artists, home improvement buffs – anyone who loves free stuff! The Society of Design Administration Seattle Chapter is offering an all-day workshop Apr 26 designed to introduce interns and newly-minted architects to the business side of the industry. The recent AIA NWPR Region Update includes a call for the New Region Director/Strategic Council Rep, an overview of the recent Grassroots Conference in Detroit, the creation of the Region's first Strategic Planning Group, and the Strategic Council Update.

AIA|WA Council Special Meeting: On Mar 21, 2016, pursuant to Article III, Section 7, Sub Section b of the AIA Washington Council Bylaws, the Board of the AIA Washington Council called for a Special Meeting of the Membership to consider revoking and replacing the current Council Bylaws. These updated Bylaws reflect over 2 years of efforts to refine the Council’s mission, align the membership services throughout the state, and ultimately create a more meaningful and efficient AIA in our state. The Special Meeting is to be held at the Center for Architecture & Design in Seattle from 4-5pm on May 5, 2016. Each current Chapter is to send delegates representing the membership of their respective Chapters to discuss, offer amendments (if any), and vote on this change.
