Message from the WBII board

Festive greetings from WBII board
And before you know it, it's mid-December and the year is coming to an end. Time to think back over the past year: did you achieve all your goals - both personal and business - and to plan ahead for the new year.

WBII already has a number of great events lined up for you to help you network and grow your business. Our first three network events of the year are already on the WBII website:
Even further ahead - If you want to start your own business (or know someone else who does) why not attend the Start Your Own Business seminar on 18 April - the final programme and speakers are still to be confirmed but can already register.

So as you can see, there's loads going on - why not come along to one (or all!) of our events and make 2019 YOUR year!

January network event 24 January 2019

The first network event of the new year is on Speeddating - Spice up your contacts! What better way to kick-start the new year. Facilitated by Charlene Lambert, there will be no speaker - just you and your business cards getting the best out of this networking experience.

Register now

Location: Carlton Ambassador Hotel, The Hague.
Time: Doors open at 19:00; speeddating at 19:30 and plenty of time to network afterwards.

Did you miss our last networking event, on 'It is about the network' with Somaye Dehban? Not to worry, read this great review by Karen Shaw!

Member highlight

None of us were brave enough to volunteer for the 10-minute pitch last month! Luckily we had the WBII board members who filled the hole.

  • Charlene Lambert reflected on her experiences at the ‘Move it Forward Starters Weekend’, organized in partnership with Webster University on launching your business in the cloud.
  • Lisa Hall spoke about the Women in Learning (WIL) collaboration meeting.
‘Sharing gives us inspiration to be the best we can be.  Look out for more collaboration events in the New Year’.
  • Heleniq Argyrou invited everyone to join the Women of Truth conference in Cyprus next year.  More information on facebook

Charlene Lambert
Once again, on December 6th, we had a wonderful holiday lunch together with many WBII members and friends. Thank you for joining us! It was a great opportunity to celebrate the season and our achievements.

We had a number of special guests and announcements made during our lunch, and for those of you who may have missed them, we would like to share these with you.
The Hague International Centre
We were so pleased to have as our special guest speaker Mandy Soonieus, Manager of The Hague’s new International Centre (THIC), a full-service expat centre assisting over 5000 expats every year. The Hague has recently been named as the most successful expat city in the Netherlands, and  #11 of the 72 best expat cities in the world.

The local government has invested heavily in reorganizing and funding their new International Centre, and in her talk, Mandy shared with us how they want to use their resources to connect with the international community. These include their new website, monthly newsletter, and through projects and seminars to make internationals feel at home. The WBII wishes Mandy and her colleagues at the THIC all the best, and we look forward to our continued collaboration.
The 'Haagse Brug'
We also had the opportunity to have as our special guest Hannelore Taal of The ‘Haagse Brug’.  Hannelore has been our contact with the City of The Hague over the past years, and has always been there when we needed information or support.  We were so pleased that she was able to join us for lunch, and understand that she will continue to be involved in international topics.  We look forward to keeping in touch!

Special thanks
We also recognized and gave a special ‘Thank You’ to two of our members who have made an extra effort to support the WBII over the past year. Darina Veen, WBII Fair Coordinator, and Caroline Orthlieb, who assisted us on a number of occasions, were recognized for their initiative.
Free meeting room for WBII members
Lastly, would you like to present your company or services, practice your pitch, discuss your business, and engage with a small group in a pleasant, central location?  During our lunch, we also had a special announcement about a new free service for our members.  As a WBII Member, you will be able to use our office located on the Nassauplein free of charge to organize small meetings!  We can offer seating for a maximum of 6-8 people, including coffee and tea, for a ± 90-minute meeting.

Our office will be adapted over the next few months, so that in February, we can start hosting ‘Mini-meetings’.  More to follow.
As 2018 comes to a close, I would like to thank you for your support over the past year, and wish everyone a very special and happy holiday season!

About the Feel at Home Fair
The Feel at Home Fair is the biggest gathering of the international community in the Netherlands. Over 4000 people, representing more than 100 nationalities, come together to share their experience of life in Holland and make connections locally.

The central theme is Bringing Communities Together. The Fair is unique in attracting so many diverse groups and helping to make connections between them. Local and international sports, social and community groups join with service providers, small businesses, schools and universities to offer a varied programme of information, activities, demonstrations and try-outs throughout City Hall.

WBII participation - we need you!
WBII members at last year's fairWBII is participating with our stand. We need volunteers among our members to help us out on the stand during the day. It is a great opportunity to meet, interact and talk to a lot of people.

Interested?  Please contact our Fair Coordinator Darina Veen, mob. 06 104 98856,  email

OPPORTUNITY for our members to hold a stand
We also encourage our members to take this opportunity and hold a stand. The low price point for a Small Business stand makes the Fair a very attractive proposition to reach a large and important target audience. The Workshop Programme is a further opportunity to present products and services in more detail.

There are 3 categories:

The social ambience of the Fair includes an International Food Court, a bar and networking café where people can catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
