Mai Chen

Nominated as a semi-finalist for the
2016 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards
Karinia Lee, GM of NZAL, today  welcomed the announcement of Mai Chen as a top ten semi-finalist of the 2016 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year.

Speaking on behalf of the Advisory Board of NZ Asian Leaders, Ms Lee said:

“Mai Chen has been a leader in both ethnic and gender issues. She is best known as one of NZ’s top lawyers, but has dedicated a lot of her time pro bono to ensuring NZ’s success, as a superdiverse country where at least a quarter of the  population is not born here. As a Taiwanese immigrant to NZ with her family at the age of 6, Mai is in a good position to act as a bridge between all New Zealanders.”

Mai published the Superdiversity Stocktake this year, which was downloaded in whole or in part 74,000 times. Along with practising law and running Chen Palmer, Mai has also made a contribution as a law academic, author of Public Law Toolbox, a media commentator on public law issues, on the BNZ Board and as inaugural Chair of NZ Global Women. We are delighted to see a top Asian New Zealander well recognised.
