WELCOME THIS SUNDAY'S GUEST PREACHER: THE REV. DR. TERRI RAE CHATTIN!
We welcome our guest preacher, The Rev. Dr. Terri Rae Chattin!

For 39 years, Rev. Chattin served in various appointment settings within the Baltimore Washington Conference including pastoring local churches, serving as the Frederick District Superintendent and as Associate Council Director for Youth and Advocacy.

Her specific ministries led to over 35 years participation in United Methodist Church Camps at Manidokan and West River along with extensive travels throughout our UMC connection including teaching in Africa University’s Pastors School. With a heart for justice, she was privileged to be part of the beginnings of the Quality of Life Retreats for persons living with HIV and the conference chapter of the Methodist Federation for Social Action. She also served a number of years in various leadership roles with BWARM.

Confidence in Terri Rae’s (TR’s) leadership was made evident by her colleagues electing her as a seven-time Jurisdictional delegate and a six-time General Conference delegate, co-leading the delegations in 2012 and 2016.

Now a retired elder in the Conference, Terri Rae continues to serve the denomination and volunteer for Quality of Life Retreats, camps and mission projects.

2021 LARS HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Once again, the EUMC family will help LARS make its Holiday Program a success. EUMC will contribute to all three parts of the 2021 Holiday program by (1) adopting 5 families and giving wrapped presents and gift cards to 12 children and their parents; (2) giving about 25 unwrapped gifts to children, and (3) donating about 25 gift cards to help families with food for the holidays.

Here is the link to the list of gifts. Please look over the list and sign-up to donate a gift or gift card. Please wrap all gifts (unless the request is for an unwrapped gift) and mark each one with the information before the specific gift, such as 106 AJR:7(F)—this is the family number and the child’s initials, age and gender. If you are donating a gift card, please put each gift card in a separate envelope and make sure the value is indicated on the card.

All gifts and donations will be due on Sunday, December 5th. Plan to drop off your gifts and donations in the Fellowship Hall at the Church from 8:30am – 11:00am on Sunday, December 5, 2021. If you need to drop off your gifts early, you can bring them to Church on Sundays from 8:30am – 10:00am or contact Becky Barbusca at office@eumclaurel.org to deliver them to the church office. Don’t forget to wear your mask when dropping off the gifts.

Also, a few more volunteers are needed to help with this program, especially with the gift collection on December 5th and the gift delivery to LARS between December 6th and December 10th. If you can help or if you have any questions, contact Carolyn Taylor at donbri12@verizon.net. Thanks in advance for your generosity and support.

IN CASE YOU MISSED THE SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM REV. KIM:

November 8, 2021 Dear Emmanuel Community, Last week I informed the Staff Parish Relations Committee of my intent to retire from my position at Emmanuel as Minister of Pastoral Care and New Members, effective January 1, 2022.  I had originally thought I would be writing this letter much earlier in 2021, and hoped to begin full-time retirement in June of 2021.  When we received the news that Rev. Stephanie was leaving, I immediately put things on hold, knowing that I wanted to do all I could to make the transition go smoothly for the church and our new pastor. Now it feels like it's time for me to move on with my plans for retirement. I believe that stepping down from my staff position will make space for new energy and ideas to help meet the changing needs of the church that have emerged over the course of the pandemic.  The pandemic also made me aware of my deep need and desire, at this time in my life, to take time for some of my other passions like music, writing, and family.    I want to be clear that I am not intending to disappear from Emmanuel.  I love this faith community and intend to continue to keep my Charge Conference (the clergy form of church membership) at Emmanuel. In order to shift gears from serving as a pastor to being a member of the congregation, I will not worship at Emmanuel during January and February. I am excited that Pastor Edgardo has invited me to do Blues Ash Wednesday, so you will definitely see me by Lent and after as I continue to find other ways to engage and worship with my beloved church family.    I am deeply grateful to have served this wonderful church just short of nine years, with an amazing staff and pastors! I have learned so much from you and cherish the commitment I see in you to share God’s love for all, wrestle with tough questions and seek justice and compassion as a way of life.  I look forward to seeing new paths emerge as Emmanuel seeks to follow God’s call in the community and in the world. Thanks so much for being such an amazing community! Peace & Love,  Rev. Kim
