Welcome to the October 2020 Newsletter,

So September turned out to be another slightly weird month, especially for us in the Auckland region, with some events and rides being impacted by the level 2.5 restrictions.

Hopefully were are now back on track to get to level one before the end of October but I guess we just have to wait and see...

In the meantime, we ARE having a branch meeting on 1st October, see below for details, and we are now gearing up for other events like the Ronnie Run and our Xmas function... again - see below for more details about what is happening and not just with North Harbour.

Hope to see lots of you at the branch meeting and that you will all be taking part in upcoming rides and events.

Take care out there..

What a busy 2 months, even though we were still at level 3 and then 2.5, I am looking forward to catching up with everyone on Club night at the Hobsonville RSA on the 1st of October. We have a several 30yr, 20yr and 10yr service awards to present.

There is also a lot going on over the next few months, and I can hardly believe there is only 3 months before Christmas, I wonder what sort of a presence (please note the pun) that Santa will have this year, Santa has had to have a medical to prove he is fit be Santa this year due to Covid-19. There will be social distancing and Santa has to be able to wear his face mask for up to 3-hour stints. Please guys, no requests for new bikes this year, as none of you have been good enough to get one.

Now I need to make it clear here if there are any mistakes in this report you can thank my office assistant, “Bootsie” she has been walking on the keyboard, trying to help me with this report.
This manoeuvre shut the laptop down in the middle of typing and a phone call from my mother.
This one all but closed the lid during typing, preventing further typing.
Then she wouldn’t let me open the lid...
Well, with all the Covid-19 Lockdown happening, we have still managed to get a few rides in, John took us on a Coastal Cruise on the back roads where he took us up into the Waitakere Ranges and to the highest peak at the end of the ranges what an awesome view.
Then we ended up at Muriwai for lunch where we had a great feed and something to drink it was a refreshing ride, fine but very cool.
Coffee and Conversations was a big hit we ended up with a group of 14 plus for breakfast and coffee, then we had an enjoyable ride to the Sawmill café up in Leigh, which was closed so we rode back to Walkworth to the River View Café for lunch.

Last weekend Harry took us on a real tiki tour to Maungawhai township no one managed to get lost we had 12 bikes and 1 trike.

Also, a group of us did a Tuesday ride up to Maungawhai because none of us could do the Wednesday ride. Speaking of the Wednesday rides they have been well attended the last one John took us to a hidden lake “Lake Ototoa” that is down a side road South Head, then it goes without say it was back to Shelly Beach for lunch.

On the 11th of October we will be combining with Auckland and heading up to Whangarei to do the Far North St Johns Ambulance Run.

Remembrance weekend is fast approaching, it is Labour weekend the service will be held on the Sunday 25th of October. Annette and I are making a long weekend of it heading down Friday coming back Monday.

Well that’s enough from me for now see you on Club Night.

Ride Well and Ride Safe and keep the Shiny Side Up.

Wine and Beer Bottle Caps plus Crushed Aluminium Cans

Save your bottle tops from your wine and beer bottles and all aluminium drink cans (all cans crushed please) and bring along to each monthly meeting. These go to the recycle station and the funds collected get passed onto a Lions Club who collect as a fundraiser for Child Dialysis.  Get your local restaurant or bar on board and have them keep the bottle tops and cans for you.

If you can separate the caps from the crushed cans into different bags or box that would be great as we get more for the aluminium.   However, we appreciate any caps and crushed cans that do arrive.

2023 National AGM & Rally

Last Year the North Harbour Branch committed to organising & running the 2023 National AGM & Rally. The Branch Committee asked me to be the AGM Coordinator & nominated Steve Crow as Committee Liaison person, now we need to start putting together a sub-committee of branch members to organise individual parts of this important event.

From past experience we can expect between 350-400+ people attending many of them from other branches and requiring accommodation, I would like to be able to billet visitors with branch members so would need some-one to take on this responsibility as well as teeing up motels.

Also needed are; Assistant AGM Coordinator, Venue Liaison, Scribe, Treasurer, Sponsorship/Event Display Liaison, Transport Liaison person, Catering Liaison person, Gear Sales Person, Registration person, (would also need someone to help prepare the registration form to go on National Website) and finally some-one to look after entertainment. There may be other jobs created as time goes on.

I envisage these people being team leaders so they don’t carry the whole burden of their job by themselves and would also have a team member to continue in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Personally, I will be 80 by the AGM time and although I have no intention of taking my last ride before then, who knows??

If you think you have the skills and energy to be part of this exciting event please email me on 2023.ulysses.agm@gmail.com or phone me.

A man was dining alone in a fancy restaurant and there was a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her.

Suddenly she sneezed and her glass eye came flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reached out, grabbed it out of the air and handed it back.

'Oh my, I am so sorry,' the woman said, as she popped her eye back in place. 'Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you.'

They enjoyed a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they went to the theatre followed by drinks.. They talked, they laughed, she shared her deepest dreams and he shared his. She listened to him with interest.

After paying for everything, she asked him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful time.

The next morning, she cooked a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The bloke was amazed. Everything had been so incredible!

'You know,' he said, 'you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every man you meet?'

'No,' she replies.

( The suspense is killing you, isn't it ) ?

She said .........

" You're just the first man who happened to catch my eye. "
