8 Sept - Sheriff
No wet arse today, reasonable turnout for the Bikers in Blue ride, maybe 200 bikes. Ray Woolfe led the ride on a 2019 Indian Scout from Pakaranga Placemakers to Silverdale Placemakers, I scored a $50 Harley voucher. Bikes and groups of all descriptions. Opie needed a trailer, He picked the wrong day to get a puncture

11 Sept - Charlie Tee
Fourteen people riding today, and a fifteenth who came to the meeting point but got a call from work just after he arrived. John Pearce led us to Shelly Beach, with a group of six splitting off at Kaukapakapa to do some gravel riding and then joining us at lunch. It looked like it might rain after lunch, but the rain didn't develop. Thanks to Don Baverstock for being TEC.

15 Sept - Charlie Tee
Fifteen riders out on a beautiful spring day today. Michael Daviesvolunteered to lead us to Port Albert. Wayne Painter was TEC. Unfortunately, the first corner marker failed to hold his position, and the last three riders got lost. I texted them with information about a regroup point, but we didn't catch up with each other until lunch.
The Port Albert General Store is closed for a few days, but we rang them at a regroup point and were able to change our destination to Te Hana. Usually the cafe in Te Hana is very good, but today their coffee machine wasn't working, and although they have a drip machine they had not turned it on, so lunch was missing a vital ingredient, at least as far as I was concerned.
After lunch, six of us led by Grant Douglas went exploring the gravel roads around Tapora, finding a few I hadn't ridden before. We took Pa Hill Road, Burma Road, and Okahukura Road, with a stop at Birds Beach where the tide was in making it an idyllic spot. Nice views from some of the gravel roads. Back to SH16 via Wharehine Road, which has just been re-gravelled but isn't particularly difficult. All the other gravel roads were in very good condition and for the most part not too dusty. All our bikes could do with a wash though.
Another good day out!

26 Sept - Charlie Tee
Eight people came to the cultural outing at Waitakaruru Arboretum and Sculpture Garden today. Unfortunately, one couple decided that they knew better than their GPS how to get there, and consequently arrived half an hour late, by which time the rest of us were well into our walk around the gardens. They made their own way around, and caught up with us later over lunch.
The six of us were given a guided tour by one of the owners, John Wakeling. The garden was created in a disused quarry from 1991, and now has 20,000 trees and shrubs, and more than 100 sculptures over the 17 ha site, which has several lakes and views over the surrounding farmland. It was a lovely place to wander around, and worth coming back to, perhaps in autumn to see how the garden changes with the seasons.
Lunch was at the excellent Willow Glen Cafe in Gordonton.

Andrew Leader runs the "Twists and Turns" low speed manoeuvring sessions that Ulysses set up some years ago.
They are run on the first Saturday of the month at Kelston Girls High School, 1 Archibald Rd, Kelston, West Auckland 0602.
All North Harbour members are invited to attend.
It’s a great opportunity to practice all those key low speed skills in a safe, supportive environment. For instance when did you last practice an emergency stop? Plenty of skilled riders attend to help with technique and encouragement and they are not judgemental. Better to practice where there are people to help pick the bike up if you lay it down!
The school entrance is first on your right as you turn off Great North Road into Archibald Road:
Cheers

One fine summer's evening, Paddy, Mick and Liam are riding back home from the bar, all three of them on Paddy's motorcycle.
Of course, they get stopped by a cop who says to them, "This motorcycle is only licensed to carry two people, and there are three of you. One of you will have to get off and walk."
"Three of us?" says Paddy as he turns to Mick. "Jeez, what happened to Rory and Niall?"

A motorcycle patrolman was rushed to hospital with an inflamed appendix. The doctors operated on him and when he came round he was relieved when they told him all had gone to plan and he was going to be fine.
But the patrolman kept feeling something pulling at the hairs on his chest. He was worried that something may be wrong but he was still too weak from the surgery to do anything. Eventually, he managed to pull his hospital gown down enough to check what was causing the discomfort. When he looked down at his chest he saw three wide strips of ultra-adhesive tape stuck firmly to him. Written on it in large black letters was the message:
"Get well soon... from the nurse you gave the ticket to last week. I'll be round to remove the tape later."

Our Club Insurances have been renewed again for the coming year with AON.
Please note, our insurer has made particular mention that we communicate to all members that in the event of a incident that may require activating our insurance policy that the insured party (that's all of us as members of the Club) does NOT admit liability for, or settle any claim or incur any defence costs without the prior written consent of the insurer (that's AON). In other words admit nothing and immediately advise Natcom of the situation.
This information is posted on the links page of the Club website.
