  Message from Director

 Hello Everyone,

Summer is flying by, as it always does.  I hope this finds you enjoying it.

The Board of Directors met in Chamberlain on June 24th for our quarterly meeting.  The meeting minutes can be down loaded in the link below.  It was a very productive meeting.  The Conference agenda has been finalized.   We are very excited about this year’s conference.  Changes have been made to the format to accommodate member’s ideas and comments from last year. (The agenda can also be down loaded in the link below).

This year we are celebrating ALASD’s 20 years of service to the Assisted Living communities of South Dakota!  “Vision 20/20; Learning from our Past, Living in the Present, and Creating our Future”.  There are very informative and dynamic speakers and the venue is absolutely gorgeous.  The new ‘Drifter’s Event Center’ in Fort Pierre has been chosen.  This is just opening for business and is on the banks of the river with a beautiful view. The Event Center does not have an attached hotel, however, we do have a block of rooms reserved at two hotels nearby.  The ‘Americinn’ and ‘The Club House Hotel and Suites’.  See full information in the downloads. The dead line for the room blocks is August 21st.  There are also other Hotels in Pierre/Fort Pierre to choose from on-line, if you prefer.

Please get your registration forms in ASAP.  The deadline is August 31st.  Remember new members; you have a 10% discount!
DON’T FORGET to nominate your facility HERO!  It is SO important to recognize your care staff for their hard work and dedication to our residents.  There is a fillable form included with the downloads to make this process simpler and less time consuming in your busy work lives.  Let’s make this year a record number of nominations and show our appreciation for our staff!  The deadline for nominations is August 1st

This year’s Board of Director openings includes;  The Vice- Chair, The Member at Large, The Western Region Rep., and The North Eastern Region Rep.  Please consider being on the Board.  It is a great way to stay involved in the industry and give and receive information with our fellow members and facilities.  If you have someone in mind for any of these positions, please nominate them!

Lastly, I wanted to address the Assisted Living Administrator course, as I have fielded a few questions regarding this.  Deb Carlson reminded the group that the SD DOH no longer accepts the Senior Living University Administrator course.  At this point, there really isn’t an Administrator course specific to just South Dakota, but she recommends the on-line ‘Easy CEU’.  The site provides on-line courses for Assisted Living and Long Term Care Administrators.  The DOH does accept this site and courses.

We look forward to seeing you in September.

Have a fun and summer!
