News from the Administrative Director

I hope everyone’s summer is going well.     

The committee is very busy with conference planning.  The conference planning committee consists of Nathan Gelhaus, Betty Steen, Colette Broekemeier, and myself.  We met in Aberdeen on June 22nd and 23rd for a planning meeting.  We toured the venue for the conference.  The Dakota Event Center (The DEC).  It is a beautiful place and perfect for our conference.  We are very excited about this year’s agenda and changes to the format.  We have included a second vendor show and new member welcome on Wednesday evening.  There will be early registration Wednesday afternoon to avoid Thursday morning registration for those who are able to come Wednesday. 

We have a great selection of vendors and speakers this year!

The ALASD board met on June 10th in Chamberlain.  The final revisions were made on the bylaws and they are included as a download in this newsletter.  Per policy of the association, the members are to be given a 30 day notice for review of these changes.  This will serve as that notice and a member vote will take place at the conference. Please review these Bylaw changes prior to the conference.   We revised the Industry partner contract and it is included in the downloads. The proposed region changes and map are included for review and will be a member vote at conference, as well. 

The group decided to try a silent auction this year.  The board members will be bringing a donated item from their facilities.  All member facilities are invited to participate and bring an item.  The proceeds from the auction will return to the association. 
Participation is optional.

Please remember to nominate a “Hero” from your facility.  It is so important to recognize your staff for their hands on, loving care of your residents.  The nomination form is included in the downloads.  The Hero awards breakfast will take place on Friday morning.  We will also be recognizing facility memberships in 5 year increments.
Hotel information and the conference registration are included in the downloads. The deadline for both is August 9th.  There is a tentative conference agenda attached. The final draft of the program agenda  will be sent out in an email and will be on the website. 



Watch for the new website, it will be up and going July 7th

We have a Region rep. opening at this time.  Brandy Fiala moved from the northeast region to the south east region after Julie Schelling’s resignation.  Please send nominations for the north east region (currently region 2) per email to myself or a board member.  (See link below for the region map).  We can accept nominations from members for the northeast region and appoint a Region rep prior to the conference, as this position is not up for this election year.  A voting ballot will be included in the August newsletter for the open board positions to be voted on at the conference.
