.

Hello to all! I walked out my door this morning to a skiff of snow again. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for that to be done and to move on to spring! I hope you are all having a warm and safe winter.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the Spotlight on Assisted Living in Mitchell March 10th. It looks like a great agenda. UAP Medication training is one of the sessions. I am working with my second student on the UMA initial registration application to apply to take the exam and be listed on the SDBON UMA registry. To take the exam, a proctor must be identified (often the RN trainer.) The test proctor must have on file an approved Proctor Agreement form with the BON. Any of your Medication Aides who were trained after January 1st 2016, must take this exam before administering medications in your facilities. You can find all of this information on the SD BON website. Feel free to contact me if you have any problems or questions with the Medication Aide regulations.

The ALASD board will be meeting March 9th in Mitchell, prior to the Spotlight. Lethia Mareinau will be sharing information regarding our meeting and board members at the Spotlight. I would like to take this time to welcome our new board members; Vicky Maag, Northeastern Region Rep., Lori McCarty, Central Region Rep., and Lezlie Snoozy-Kaifors (welcome back, Lezlie!), Western Region. Thank-you for taking on these positions.

It is hard to believe that it’s time to start working on the annual conference again. We will be setting a conference date for our Pierre venue at our meeting. Please contact a board member anytime you have an idea of what you would like to see presented at the conference. If you know of presenters or educational opportunities please share this with the board.

I am looking forward to another great year of growth and networking with all of our current members and the new members we will undoubtedly obtain!

Sincerely,

Colette Broekemeier, RN

Time Is Running out to Register!
