ACT’s ‘Kiss Me, Kate’: It’s Wunderbar!

Passions run high as leading lady Lilli Vanessi and her ex-husband, actor/director Fred Graham, battle onstage and off in a musical version of Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew.” The story transports you between 1940s Baltimore and a Renaissance Italian town, combining the irreverent humor of two brilliant writers: Cole Porter and William Shakespeare. A revival of “Kiss Me, Kate” just opened on Broadway, but our version is way more affordable, and just as fun! Don’t miss the romance, comedy, classic songs and spectacular dance numbers!

Drama ‘Proof’ rounds out Studio Series

Catherine has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions, the arrival of her estranged sister, and the attentions of a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. A burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father's madness—or genius—will she inherit? Only four performances - get your tickets before they’re gone!

Saturday, May 19
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Ever thought you’d like to join the fun of a show at Ankeny Community Theatre but you’re not ready to perform? Volunteering at ACT allows many opportunities to be a part of the fun without having to be in front of the curtain! Volunteer Orientation will be held May 19 from 1-3 at the theater. Current volunteers are also encouraged to attend for a refresher, updates, and new opportunities.

RSVP to volunteer@ankenycommunitytheatre.com if you’d like to JOIN the FUN!.

A case for sharing a bit of your tax refund

You’ve heard that ticket sales don’t cover the cost to run our theater? Far from it. Did you know:
  • Like many of you who have a monthly mortgage to pay, ACT has a monthly rent payment of nearly $2,000.
  • We want you to be as comfortable sitting in one of our theater seats as you are at home. We paid over $500 in utilities last month to keep you warm when the cold front settled in.  And that doesn’t include the $300 we paid for two unexpected service calls on our HVAC unit.
  • The safety of every patron and volunteer is important to us, and with that comes the responsibility of being properly insured. This season, ACT’s insurance premium was $4,000.
We doubt you think about expenses like these when you visit ACT to enjoy a show. We are fortunate to have tremendous financial support from our membership, but we always think about how ACT can improve with increased funding. Come grow with us!

Dinner, Drinks, and Murder

ACT teamed up with The Cellar at White Oak winery for an evening of mystery and laughs on Feb. 2. The sold-out audience enjoyed wine from The Cellar, dinner, and a performance of “Dinner at Eight, Dead by Nine” by Ankeny Community Theatre actors. Murder was never so amusing! ACT’s proceeds are supporting our core mission of providing live local theater and participation opportunities for all. Thank you to everyone who attended!

In case you missed it: Get excited for our next season!
