Workshops and Clinics 

The Grande Prairie Sport Council will be teaming up with the Alberta Sport Development Centre, Sport Medicine Council of Alberta, Be Fit For Life Centre, the GP Volunteer Services Bureau and others to bring the sport community opportunities for professional development. Here is a list of some of the clinics that will be available (Dates TBA):

Social Media and Sport

Social media is a win-win for sports because it can act as both a conduit for personal interactions and a source for information. This workshop is for those that are interested in creating communication platform for creating, maintaining, and enhancing relationships with fans, organizers, parents, and potential sponsors.

Volunteer Management

The volunteer management workshop will be designed to assist organizations meet the challenges and opportunities of recruitment, management and retention of volunteers in today's environment. 


NCCP workshops are designed for all types of coaches. Whether you’re thinking about coaching your child’s community team or you’re already the head coach of a national team, there is a NCCP has workshops to meet your needs. (Types of workshops will depend on interest levels)

Sport Nutrition

The Sport Nutrition Course will be to educate athletes, coaches, trainers, volunteers, and the general public at large about the fundamental concepts of nutrition, and how those concepts can be utilized to improve athletic performance.

Dealing with Concussions

This concussion management workshop will share the latest news and protocols on preventing, identifying and managing concussions. This is a necessary workshop for any coach, parent, and athlete or recreation worker.

Athletic Injury Management

The 8-hour Athletic Injury Management course is designed to provide persons involved in sport and recreation activities with an opportunity to increase theoretical and practical knowledge in the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries.

Sport Tapping & Strapping

If you want to learn unique and practical taping techniques for most common sports injuries, then this is the course for you.

Event Fundraising

Develop a base of knowledge including methods of fundraising, donor relationships and campaign management.

Fundamental Movement Skills

Fundamental movement skills are very important in the physical development of a child. When a child is confident and competent with these skills, they can develop sport-specific and complex movement skills that allow them to enjoy sport and physical activity. This workshop teaches you how to teach the fundamental movement skills.

Sport and Exercise Psychology

Mental toughness tools to for athletes, coaches and parents of all sports and at all levels. This will be a workshop teaching athletes, coaches and parents about common performance enhancement interventions, including goal setting, imagery, and cognitive strategies.

Sponsorship Fundamentals

Organizations that become good sponsorship partners realize that this is a business deal, not a donation. They also learn the skills involved in securing good corporate sponsorship. 

GPSC Membership 

Actively participate in the growth and enhancement of sport in our region.

Members include individuals, sport and other community organizations, and businesses. 

Member benefits:

  • Sport Organizations get a vote at the AGM
  • Individual Members are eligible for election to Board of Directors
  • Members get preferred positioning on website, including membership badge beside their name
  • Sport Organizations and Associate members receive access to 2 free workshops or clinics per membership year ( For example, 1 member for 2 workshops or 2 members for one workshop each)
  • Membership rates for all workshop/clinics and webinars
  • Membership rates to GPSC Sport Banquet
Memberships are a vital component of the Grande Prairie Sport Council. It proves to our municipalities and partners that the sports community and the GPSC are committed to working together for the enhancement and growth of sport in this region. It also allows for greater communication among organizations, partners and stakeholders in the sport community.

Pomeroy Team Cycling Challenge. 

September 5-6, Grande Prairie to Edmonton

On September 2 - 7, 2014 pro-cyclists from around the world will compete in the Tour of Alberta. You can be part of the excitement!

On September 5-6, 2014 amateur riders are invited to compete in Tour of Alberta's inaugural Pomeroy Team Cycling Challenge, a relay race from Grande Prairie to Edmonton. Register to be one of 300 cyclists to conquer this 463km course!

The race starts with a send off in Grande Prairie and ends with a big welcome to the Alberta capital. On September 7, the winning teams will meet their Tour of Alberta team of choice for some post race banter and camaraderie.

Bragging rights are not all that are up for grabs. Teams will be raising funds for the Alberta Cancer Foundation's Prostate Cancer Research led by Dr. John Lewis.  Participants will also receive a special commemorative jersey and will have VIP access to the finish line of the final stage of the Tour of Alberta in Edmonton.

The Tour of Alberta Team Cycling Challenge: Grande Prairie to Edmonton is organized by TransRockies Events in partnership with the Alberta Peloton Association.
