Kia ora and welcome to the first Porirua Whanau Centre newsletter. Our City is a vibrant and richly diverse one being made up of peoples from many cultures which we enjoy working with. We provide a range of services and programmes and are always looking at what else the community might need. This monthly newsletter is designed to keep you informed on what services are available, when our events, activities and programmes will be running and to also celebrate the richness of our multi-cultural communities and their achievements eg. The recent Community Education Graduations.
Enjoy the newsletter, feel free to forward it to friends and whanau so we can keep the whole community informed of what is happening and available for them. Please contact us about any of the programmes, service or activities that are featured or if there is something else you think the Porirua Whanau Centre may be able to help you with please feel free to contact our team.

Childcare Celebrates Samoan Independence Day!!

Parents were invited to come and celebrate Samoan Independence Day with us at the centre. Our children were dressed up in Puletasi (island top and island skirt) for girls and Alo’a (island shirt) for boys and entertained their parents and staff with a Samoan Siva (Samoan dance).

We love to celebrate our cultures here at Porirua Whanau Centre Childcare. It’s important to show our children that we are a unique, diverse community and are proud of our different cultures. A lovely day all round topped off with traditional Samoan food including: Fai’ai Eleni and Kalo (Mackerel baked in coconut cream and Taro).

Curtain Bank!!

Wellington Curtain Bank is a free service, providing made-to-measure, lined curtains for Community Service card holders.
Curtain Bank
Winter time in our community is getting better with free curtains and also free insulation for our families in Porirua, as the Porirua Whanau Centre and the Wellington Curtain Bank have teamed up once again. Although it’s one room per household, families appreciate the fact that they are able to have good quality, lined curtains for their homes.
“It’s awesome, so thankful for the Curtain Bank or else we would still have sheets on our windows and a cold home this winter” – Happy Client.

If you have curtains you don’t need please donate them to our Curtain Bank so they can continue to help families that are in need.
