Kia Ora, Welcome to this month’s Newsletter.

It's November already, 6 weeks until we close for the Christmas holiday season but who's counting?

We have had another busy month during October. We hosted a Profile Evening for our ECE parents where they had the opportunity to look at the Waka that was created by our children and view all the exciting things the children have celebrated during the month. Our community education class celebrated another successful Certificate Day and we have said farewell and best wishes to our Family Violence Prevention Network Coordinator: Wendy Leary.
This month we are preparing for  Community Education and HIPPY Graduations. Its a priviledge to be able to provide a platform for our children and adults to gain quality education. Congratulations to all our tamariki and whanau who will be graduating this month.

White Ribbon Day is fast approaching which is nationally celebrated on November 25th. Porirua community organisations work collaboratively through the year to assist preventing family violence. They will be highlighting their programmes and services under the canopies on White Ribbon Day, everyone is welcome.

He waka eke noa - A Canoe which we are all in with no exception.

Nga Mihi,
Liz Kelly
Whanau Support

With one door closing, another one opens as we welcome the new Porirua Community Family Violence Prevention Coordinator: Petelo Alosio.

Petelo is not a stranger to the community. His background is with Community Injury Prevention at ACC and a Community Support Worker (Navigator) Disability in Mental Health Service. His vision is to empower, influence and implement positive changes to keep our children/whanau/aiga/friends and Porirua community free from all family violence.

Petelo is married with four children and he likes taro with coconut cream, raw fish, chop suey, pork buns and his favorite drink is Koko Samoa.

Good to have you on board.

Violence is endemic within New Zealand with one in three women experiencing violence from a partner in their lifetime, while on average, fourteen women are killed each year by a member of their own family.
White Ribbon is an international movement to end men's violence towards women.

Each November we run a week long campaign that culminates on 25 November, White Ribbon Day.
We have events running throughout the White Ribbon week,
Below are some pictures of last years White Ribbon Day with the Pledge Hand collage and the Riders lined up under the Canopies.

We are currently updating information on our website for this years White Ribbon Week programme so keep a look out at

Early Childhood Education
This is our Waka our children created and we have named it: Nga Hau e Wha which means: From the four corners of the earth.
We have lots of different cultures here at Porirua Whanau Centre Childcare and celebrate each one. Take a look at our awesome waka made by the children.
Our children were all go for Halloween this year, dressing up in their favourite costumes. They were treated to some goodies and  tricked with a nap time.

We had pirates, ghosts, purple bats, black fairies, spiderman and more. A fun day for the children.
Check out some of our Hallooween spooks belooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
Our roll has increased and we now have spaces for Under 2's and spaces available for Over 2's.
If you want to give your children the best start then give us a call. We have an excellent team operating and are proud of the great job they do.
