CONCORA’s Friends of Bach invite you to enjoy an evening of Wine, Jazz, & Song on Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 6-9 PM, in the lovely Amistad Hall in the Porter Memorial at First Church, 75 Main Street, Farmington. Scientists Know Why We Like
Wine, Jazz, & Song
Did you know that scientists have actually studied the ways in which music affects our perceptions of taste, and specifically, how our listening preferences affect how we experience wine? It’s true! Among the many studies published on the topic, these caught our attention:
  • Peoples’ ratings of the taste of the wine “reflected the emotional connotations of the background music played while they drank it” (
  • The music we listen to “can sometimes change our perception (or, at the very least, our rating) of what we are eating or drinking.” For example, “the emotional attributes...of a piece of music [can] influence people's perception of red or white wine.” (
  • “At a wine tasting event with live classical music, the music playing in the background ... had a significant effect on the perceived acidity and fruitiness of the wines.” (
All that research is used by wine merchants and restaurateurs to encourage wine-lovers to indulge. And you’ll have a perfect opportunity to test these theories — and perhaps explore some of your own — at the 15th edition of CONCORA’s Wine, Jazz, & Song party on Saturday, January 21.
In the elegant Porter Memorial Hall in Farmington, you and your friends can sample an array of wines from Chile, California, and Spain and enjoy ample hors d’oeuvres and tapas while you enjoy the smooth sounds of the Sir William Trio and five CONCORA vocalists. Is that up-tempo be-bop the perfect accompaniment for the California Zinfandel? Or is the soulful Chilean cabernet sauvignon perfect for listening to a jazz ballad? The possibilities are endless!
While the music will enhance your enjoyment of the wines and foods, of course the music is the main course. The smooth and sophisticated Sir William Trio, with five CONCORA vocalists, will delight you with their warm, funny, heart-rending, snappy, sassy interpretations. Horace Silver... Charlie Parker...Cole Porter... Johnny Mercer... it’s a jazz-lover’s paradise.

What are you waiting for? "Now's the Time"!
