Now, here is a gift to share the PEACE of the season: Daniel Gawthrop’s poignant “Sing Me to Heaven,” sung by CONCORA and conducted by Lorri Cetto, Director of Choral Activities at Hall High School (West Hartford).

Make “Christmas with CONCORA!”
part of your holiday tradition!

This Saturday evening, December 10, when CONCORA and Artistic Director Chris Shepard present "Christmas with CONCORA," the concert will feel like a homecoming of sorts.

The program itself – favorite carols in sparkling settings from the Oxford Carols for Choirs collections — includes some of the world’s best-known carols in much-loved arrangements.

Then there’s the concert setting – the warm and welcoming sanctuary of First Lutheran Church in downtown New Britain, site of many CONCORA concerts over the years.

Finally, there’s the whole idea of “Christmas with CONCORA” – the magical combination of beautiful music, a warm holiday spirit, and of course, the traditional sing-along, where many listeners will “strike the harp and join the chorus” while others will revel in the glory of many voices raised in song.

The concert on December 10 is the 26th edition of “Christmas with CONCORA,” a tradition begun in 1989 by CONCORA’s founding Artistic Director Richard Coffey. Over more than a quarter century, CONCORA singers and audiences have enjoyed some of the world’s best music to celebrate the Christmas season, from anonymous medieval chants to newly-commissioned works, from small musical moments to grand masterworks (including Handel's Messiah), and from the sublime to the ridiculous (anyone remember the lovably silly Pie Carols? We do!). What riches!

For this year’s edition of “Christmas with CONCORA,” Chris Shepard has chosen a sleigh-full of arrangements from the beloved Carols for Choirs collection published by Oxford University Press. These are the best of the best – elegant, warm, and utterly memorable. You’ll be humming these lovely tunes for days.

During a time of year known for its hustle and bustle, Chris is hoping that listeners will experience “Christmas with CONCORA” as a time of respite and peace. “Although the holiday season should rightly be a time of peace, joy, and good will, it can too often be a time of obligation, stress, and frenetic activity,” he said. “This concert will provide our audience with a time of reflection, a break from an otherwise whirlwind season.”

For many CONCORA friends, this traditional concert is a cherished entrée to the holiday season. Make "Christmas with CONCORA" part of your holiday tradition, too! Reserve your seats now for this popular concert.
