Mid Council Relations

Last week I had the privilege of accompanying sixteen new presbytery stated clerks through two and a half days of training, led by my colleague Laurie Griffith and featuring helpful information from numerous other colleagues. It was a lot to take in! One of the major themes: if you don’t know or can’t remember, ask us here in the OGA. If we don’t know, we will work at finding out.

Here are a few more places to find the resources you need:

Plan a workshop for the congregations in your presbytery to be conducted by the PMA’s communications ministry. Can’t find the required 20 participants from your own congregations? Consider collaborating with a nearby presbytery.

Don’t miss the opportunity for your presbytery to choose two representatives to attend POINT training, January 30–31 prior to the 2018 gathering of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators. POINT (Presbyterians Organized in Nurture and Teaching) provides in-depth training on denominational curriculum and other resources. Representatives receive training on the front end of the APCE annual event and return to their presbyteries to share their expertise with others. This year’s training will cover the new confirmation curriculum Big God, Big Questions, the new adult Bible study series Six Themes in … Everyone Should Know, and including children with disabilities and special needs with the children’s curriculum Growing in Grace and Gratitude. Curriculum samples will be given.

The Association of Mid Council Leaders has a new membership form. Remember, while dues for the first person from a presbytery or synod are $125, additional members from the same mid council are only $50. AMCL offers a valuable locus for mutual support and learning from one another, because you are the best resource!

  • What do you expect to be able to find online, but can’t?
  • What’s happening in your ministry—successes, failures, learnings—that would be helpful to your colleagues? Write about it so that I can share it here. I am eager for your contributions!
